found b16a1 & bought pr4

ok,
I'm going back to the tracks on friday, hopfully (if not ran)
I was looking for a pg7,pm7 or just a integra form the junkyard,
so I could get the ecu,run again,,,just to hit that high 15 mark, anyways,
I ended up seeing a b16a1 out of a 90 teg,manual,
the cluster had 77k on it,it had the motor, dizzy, intake, tranny, axels & all!!!,
it was actually very clean looking
the whole half of the car was cut in half, lol, welded on to another car,
anyways,I took the PR4 ecu,I took a list of ecu's that work with our obd0 cars, hoping i could get a little bit faster one then this pm6,
(to run at the tracks,)my brother's mazda 626 thinks hes going to beat me this time,by putting his 14's on,
so I put the pr4 ecu in my car today & took it for a drive,
my pm6 redlined at 7200 in 1st gear & like 6800-7000 in all other gears,
the pr4 redlined out at 6800 in 1st gear & I kind of slowed down & was like huhhhh.....
not sure if I felt any difference,(but I think I did,...not sure)
I know the A/F gauges dont really work, but when I installed the pr4 it stayed on rich the whole time, when usally its ideal,( i read up on the pr4 alot today)
so I tried somthing new,if it did help my car out by a couple of tenths of seconds, just to hit the 15's,then I really wouldn't notice it,
but my whole plan has changed on my car,
he wants 600.00 for everything,motor,tranny,axels,ext....
I'm jumping all over it,I know theres probably another 500-600 that I need to put into the motor, mounts, tune up,timing belt,brakes,ext...
but its well worth it,
I'm very happy to be going to b series w/soon 2 b turbo,
can't wait,
they also have a 89 prelude b series motor out there, already out & in the garage,I didn't get to see what model of motor it is,but I took a quick look at it,hes only wanting 300.00 for it,without any trans,
so my questions & posts will be up in about a month or so,
because I'm holding back all my money for this swap,
but I'm still going down the track this friday with the pr4 & pm6,..lol
I got my money on smokin a junkedout camaro,heavy-azz d16y8 & a 626...
they aint gotta chance to this d15....seriously

Re: found b16a1 & bought pr4

pr4 wouldnt run a b16. well i guess it kinda would, but not really since a pr4 is a 90-93 integra rs, ls, and gs ecu. you sure it was a b16?

the b series from the prelude is trash, the red headed step son of b series, stay away from it.

Re: found b16a1 & bought pr4

well you might already know this but that could have been easily mistaken for b18a1 wich is the motor that comes in the 90-93 tegs. but hey maybe you will be luckey. and good luck i just put a b16a in my crx with a turbo and hope to get it running soon. let us know. and i heard the b20 out of the preludes are hard to get into the crx or somthin like that. but trust hybrid he knows. oh and even if it is a b18a1 check the miles and then you could pull that out for a turbo. i hear the b18a1 is close to best for the b series turbos

Re: found b16a1 & bought pr4

You put a B18a1 ecu in your car that is why you're running rich. You have a sohc 1.6 and are running a dohc 1.8 ecu. Congratulations for fucking up your car. You really should have just left the pm6 alone.

Re: found b16a1 & bought pr4

i dont really see how anyone could mistake a b18a for a b16a the valve covers are totally different, and even if the valve cover was gone, a quick look at the cams would tell you.

Re: found b16a1 & bought pr4

ok,this thread went a little bit far,
mostly on turtle telling me that I fucked up my car,...lol
I knew what engine it was coming from,& what the different fuel settings & ign curves would be,(I read up on ppl that done the ecu swap)
man I just swapped ecus & seen how it runs,
I done alot of searching on ecus(obd0's) whatever & found alot of ecus that run the 1.6 engine, mainly just the MPFI....
from my knowledge they run exactly the same,(pm6 & pr4)
& I needed the ecu or another one to run the b series engine,

& on another subject about what engine it is,
I looked at the engine code on the front,
it said B16A1,
I had to double look incase it said b18,
which I would of probably liked a b18 better then the b16,
not really sure which ones better but it for sure said,b16a1,
I'll be honest you guys are leading me to believe that it said b18,
but I double looked & it said b16,
not that this is all a big deal, both would be great over this d15,
but the numbers 6 & 8 are pretty close in common,
just a half a circle off on the top 6..lol
but I'm saving my money up right now,hes a good guy,I think he would let the setup go for 500.00
I'll have it in a month.

another thing, the valve coiver on the car looked like this:
http://brainerdstreetracing.com/Dave/b16a1.jpg
(but it didn't have the words,DOHC Vtec,(just the honda symbol & honda motors co.)

it did not look like thiswith the lined blocks on the valve cover)

Re: found b16a1 & bought pr4

I was only stating what has already been done by somebody else on this forum... *cough*Derek*cough*. The PR4 ecu dumps more fuel because it is meant for an engine that has 2 cams and more displacement. Putting this ecu on a single cam engine with less displacement will cause a negative effect. But you already knew this.

but thanks for stating the truth about the swap,
just so happens if I didn't know,I would of known now..lol
so would the pr4 ecu go good with this engine..?
or is the pg7 & pm7 still on the map?

Re: found b16a1 & bought pr4

Could it have been a d16a1? or did they stop in the 88 integra?

Re: found b16a1 & bought pr4

ok,
I done alot of searching just now & the only thing I could find,
is that a 90 teg is a b18a1....
but I know for sure it said 16,but it could of said d16a1 & me not looking close enough for a little change like that,
but I really thought the whole thing just said b16a1,
could of been a swap is what im thinking,
& if thats true then the 77k on the cluster is wroung!
to get down to it,
I'm going to have to drive all the way across city again
just to see what type of engine this is,
maybe pick somthing little off the car....

Re: found b16a1 & bought pr4

i think he said it was a 90 integra not sure tho. but isnt it illegal to put a d16a1 into a 90 teg. since the year differance. and you cant put a older motor in a new car right?

Re: found b16a1 & bought pr4

its not illegal to put in a d16a1 but really stupid seein as how that motor is slower then a d15. but a b16 is a common swap in integras, and he prob was runnin his pr4 cause it will run that motor with a v-tec controller or jus never had the v-tec hooked up.
