1990 88 Transmission delayed engage
Ok so i have a 1990 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale with the 3.8 L V6 auto tranny, and it seems every morning before work, my dad would shift out of park, and NOTHING HAPPENS, nothing at all! we have no idea wats going on, according to the service manual it can be low fluid, but the level is fine, and it could be some bad valve or something, but i dont know about that, does anyone have any ideas, i already replaced the Vacuum Modulator, and still no clue wat the problem is...

Re: 1990 88 Transmission delayed engage
I don't have time to find it, but search through my threads, I had a similar problem which was fixed by lucas transmission additive.

Bad internal seal in the trans. So its either overhaul it or just live with it.

Re: 1990 88 Transmission delayed engage
That particular transmission had some problems with spool valves inside the transmission leaking when cold. There's a fix for it, but unless you've never been into a valvebody i'd stay away from it..

Re: 1990 88 Transmission delayed engage
These transmissions usually start having trouble anywhere from 100k miles to 200k miles. In my case of a messed up tranny, it was easier to just get one from a junked engine (which I had conveniently in my garage) instead of trying to rip it apart and fix it.
However, Lucas may not be a bad idea to try before anything as drastic as a rebuild/replace/repair/etc. The only company's products that I fully trust what their labels say are Lucas and Seafoam, if that means anything to you. But I'm kinda useless when it comes to the guts of a tranny since I haven't felt the need to rip one apart...yet....
