Install problems with TYC tail lights (2002 Galant)

Has anyone experianced any problem after installation of Elegante by TYC rear lamps? I ask because some time ago, I purchased TYC part# M12811124 (Black Lamp Set;99-03 Galant; certificate# AX0201633,for my vehicle,a 2002 Galant. Just recently, while placing luggage in my trunk, the spare tire cover(MR776858) gave way and I noticed that it was rotted with mildew and a pool of water had gathered underneath in the spare tire well! I shopped vacuumed it up and thought it was just a freak occurrence. However, a week later on 5/16/06, after heavy down pour, I noticed it happened again. Note, the car wasn't used the day of or prior to heavy rain. I immediately took my vehicle to the dealership, thinking perhaps it may be something structural. After removing trunk rug and spare tire cover, the tech hosed down the vehicle with someone inside the trunk with a flashlight. The tech then showed me that the water was in fact coming in from around the tail lights, and into the trunk via the bolts holding the lamps to the body!I found this hard to believe! All this time and I would have never known, if the spare tire cover didn't rot out! The tech did point out that there is a small gap around the TYC lamp and the vehicle body, which isn't present with the OEM lamps. Even with the bolts as tight as they can go on the TYC lamps! He suggested I install the OEM lamps and see if it occurs again. I have the OEM lamps and will install and check after next carwash/rain. I've contacted TYC and am awaiting a reply.Your time to review my post is appreciated!
