Excessive road noise

I am a new member into the BMW world and so far love it. Does anyone know if a 328i is a real "quiet" car? I put some new tires on, though in hindsight I am going to upgrade them as it is annoyingly loud above 72 miles an hour. I am hoping it is the tires. Question is this: Does anyone know if this car is just loud above 70, or do you guys know of a problem that creates a loud ride. It sounds like it is coming from the back right side of the car.......It may just be the car, but it seems awful loud. Thanks.

You don't mention how many miles the car has, however you may have a rear wheel bearing beginning to fail. I recently had to replace then on my 91 318is at 150k miles. The hum was very loud, and as you describe annoying. New wheel bearings, quiet as can be. Good luck. Muleman

Re: Excessive road noise

Thanks Muleman. The car has 55,000 miles on it and according to the computer is due for the type II service in 14,000 miles. The tires I put on it were General Exclaims.....through the urging of a neighbor and friend. Anybody know anything about these tires? Are they loud?

Re: Excessive road noise

I drive a 1990 325ic with 156,000 miles on the odometer and the only loud noise I hear (with top up) is from the muffler. She is shod with Falken tires and they are quiet.

What kind of tires did you buy? Wall-mart 29.99$ special on sale or a 130$ michelin?
