Adding cruise to a Civic

Hey guys and gals, my first post here.

I picked up a 2000 Civic SE, 5 speed yesterday. Yes its a grocery getter . The cruise option is missing but I'd really like it. Anyone done one? Any ideas where to look for info? I'm gonna call up some dealers and see how much they want for them.

Thanks in advance.

Dead thread, but shows that you can do it. There are some aftermarket cruise control options that you can get. Honda made all the wiring harnesses pretty much the same (lazy on their part, makes it a little easier for stuff for us) so you should have a harness hook up for cruise. Normally the switch for cruise would be on the driver side next to the interior light dimmer. Pop out that whole vent and see if there is a hook up other than the one that is for the interior lights (it'll be right with the harness hook up for the dimmer). If there's one there... that's for cruise control. Now you just need to buy a cruise control unit and hook it all up. I imagine it shouldn't be too hard, but it really depends on how much experience you have with wiring things and electrical in cars.

Re: Adding cruise to a Civic

No problem. If I remember correctly there's 4 wires coming out of the CC clip. I'll double check later today after work and let you know and also let you know what colors the wires are. Should help a little bit more.

Re: Adding cruise to a Civic

Ok... sorry it took so long. There is actually 5 wires coming from the plug for the cruise control switch. Red, red w/ black stripe, black, black w/ yellow stipe, and green. All of them have silver dots too. Let me know if you wind up finding it hidden in your dash.

Re: Adding cruise to a Civic

Sorry about the late reply nitebeest, but I was on holidays. I had a chance to pull the tab next to the dimmer switch this afternoon, but I didn't see any wires in there. You think I should pull off as much of that panel as possible? Or should it be fairly obvious to see if the wiring is there already?

Thanks.

Re: Adding cruise to a Civic

Just pop the whole vent. It just comes right out. Don't forget to disconnect the dimmer when you first start pulling it though. And if there is a cruise connect back there it'll probably already have a connector on the end. Just see if you see one back there.

Re: Adding cruise to a Civic

Cool, its seems like I've lucked out and have the harness already. So I'm gonna take a trip to a few scarp yards maybe and hopefully find a wrecked Civic and take the cruise unit out.

Thanks for helping with this nitebeest.
