Mexico threatens to sue the U.S. over troops on the border

Mexico threatens to sue in U.S.

Quote:
NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico -- Mexico warned Tuesday that it will sue in U.S. courts if National Guard troops detain emigrants on the border, and some officials said they fear that the crackdown will force illegal crossers into more perilous areas to avoid detection.

Bush announced Monday that he will send 6,000 National Guard troops to the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border but said the troops will provide intelligence and surveillance support to U.S. Border Patrol agents and will not catch or detain illegal immigrants.

"If there is a real wave of rights abuses, if we see the National Guard starting to directly participate in detaining people ... we would immediately start filing lawsuits through our consulates," Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez said in an interview with a Mexico City radio station.

Mexican officials worry that the crackdown will lead to more deaths. Since the U.S. toughened security at crossing spots in Texas and California in 1994, migrants have flooded Arizona's hard-to-patrol desert, and deaths have spiked.

Migrant groups estimate that 500 people died trying to cross the border in 2005. The Border Patrol reported 473 deaths as of Sept. 30.

Sending the National Guard "will not stop the flow of migrants; to the contrary, it will probably go up" as people try to get into the U.S. with hopes of applying for a possible amnesty program, said Julieta Nunez Gonzalez, the local representative of Mexico's National Immigration Institute in Ciudad Juarez.

Along the border in Nuevo Laredo, Carlos Gonzalez, a 23-year-old from Mexico's southern state of Chiapas, was waiting for a chance to swim across the river into Texas. He said soldiers wouldn't stop him getting to a construction job he had lined up in North Carolina.

Mexican newspapers Tuesday characterized the decision as a hardening of the U.S. position, and some criticized Mexican President Vicente Fox for not taking a stronger stand, though Fox called Bush on Sunday to express his concerns.

Fox spokesman Ruben Aguilar said Tuesday that Mexico accepted Bush's statement that the Guard troops don't imply a militarization of the area and that Mexico remains "optimistic" that the U.S. Senate would approve an immigration reform "in the interests of both countries."

He noted that Bush expressed support for the legalization of some immigrants and the implementation of a guest-worker program.

"This is definitely not a militarization," said Aguilar, who also called "absolutely false" rumors that Mexico would send troops to the border in response.

Many analysts believe that Fox is willing to trade enhanced border security for a comprehensive plan that legalizes the status of undocumented workers in the United States, something on which he could stake his legacy.
When are we going to tell them to
1. Fuck off
2. Shut the fuck up and
3. Mind your own fucking business

I'm already pissed off that the Senate decided that letting illegals gain citizenship is more important than border security. Getting troops is a good thing that we need and these fucktards below us don't like it?

Kiss my ass Mexico!

Mr. Fox should be thanking us that things are going this easily. IF the AMERICAN PEOPLE had their way, the illegals would be out and we'd have armed guards standing shoulder to shoulder across the entire border.

Re: Mexico threatens to sue the U.S. over troops on the border

The thing that gets to me about all of this shit -- ALL OF IT, is that in the years and years of wrangling over this issue, the focus has always been on the role of the United States. Why us? Regardless of whatever Monroe Doctrine-esque monkeying around we've done with Central and South American countries over the last couple hundred years, the fact remains:

PEOPLE ARE CROSSING THE BORDER ILLEGALLY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WHAT THE U.S. HAS TO OFFER, BECAUSE THEIR COUNTRY CLEARLY LACKS THAT OPPORTUNITY.

Why the hell should the U.S. and its policies, support systems, and economic practices be under the gun, when the goddamn problem is with someone else's country? Just because Vicente Fox and his administration are inept, his officials are corrupt, and clearly no one in Mexico gives a damn about fixing their own broken economy, WE are suddenly the badguys? How dare WE deny these poor people the chance at opportunity and a decent living?

How dare YOU drive them out of their home country in the first place, you stupid asses.

Obviously it's not Mexico's fault that they border a world superpower. Obviously it's not Mexico's fault that they happen to essentially be the only overland route into the U.S. for drug smuggling. And obviously it's not entirely the fault of Mexican citizens that their country is such a difficult place to live. But if you ask me, wouldn't all the might and effort being put behind this "millions strong" immigration movement be better utilized if it was turned on the situation in the immigrant's home countries? Isn't it just possible that millions of Mexicans marching on every city in Mexico might just make a bigger impact than their marching on American cities?

For the love of all that is sane people -- stop running away from your damn problems, because we don't want you to bring them here! (We've got enough of our own as it is.) And that is essentially what's at the heart of this issue. When I see hundreds of thousands of immigrants marching in demonstration, I don't see hundreds of thousands of strong, willfull, brave souls fighting for a noble cause -- I see hundreds of thousands of pussies, all too lazy to address their own country's shortcomings (the reason they were driven out in the first place) and wanting instead to try and find the easy way out. I mean, why put all the effort into fixing a broken system, when you can just try and hijack one already ripe for the taking.

Who here thinks it's a little more than mere coincidence that advocates just happened to choose this moment, when our country's leadership is weak, it's politicians useless, and its foreign and domestic policies are under intense scrutiny, to launch their all out assault on immigration? They were waiting for a weakness, they saw one, and now they're exploiting it. That's not commendable -- it's downright despicable.

Time for a Foxhunt.

I think American tourists would appreciate more parking spaces in Mexico.

Re: Mexico threatens to sue the U.S. over troops on the border

I've actually witnessed a small village here at the foothills of SC become a pre-dominately Mexican town, and I'm willing to bet they're mostly illegals or were... maybe still are. I've heard from the locals for years how, if given the chance, they would line up at the border with fire arms. Actually, some already have... I believe this is why the government is handling this with the National Guard to keep it under governmental order. I wonder how many people just enlisted into the Guard requesting boarder duty.

I'm sure the ACLU is already lining up to take the case.

I am sick and tired of it. They sue us, because THEY CANNOT SUPPORT THEIR OWN FUCKING PEOPLE.

Hey, maybe we should sue them for reparations for the fucking leeching their people have done for decades? How much tax money has that cost us?

Re: Mexico threatens to sue the U.S. over troops on the border

I've heard that if, and I use that term very loosely, they are "legalized" that the amount of welfare and other government funded programs they would be using would raise our taxes to nearly 80% in time. Which I believe it, we're already taxed far too much as it is.

I've really been comparing Bush's demenor over the years and it's b/c more and more similar to that of a tyrant and not a president. As I said in the other thread this is the start of the New World Order Bush Sr. mentioned in one of his speeches.

Re: Mexico threatens to sue the U.S. over troops on the border

Just when you think you've seen it all, this happens. How can a foreign government sue us for enforcing our own laws, on our own soil?

Rights? They're citizens of another country! They don't have any damn rights here! They don't belong here and they should be turned around at the border and sent back.

Hmm, wait a minute. Maybe we should just annex the whole country of Mexico. They want to be citizens so damn badly, let's just make it happen. Then we own the whole country, lock, stock, and oil barrel. Especially the oil barrel part. I'm sure we could use the resources.

YES!!! That is what I'm talking about. Who's with us?

That'd be great, going to Cancun and Tijuana won't be hard to do and they'll be cleaner!

How will this play out now?

Bush Requests $1.9B to Bolster Borders

Quote:
WASHINGTON - President Bush sent Congress a $1.9 billion request Thursday to increase border security as supporters of sweeping immigration legislation reasserted control in Senate debate.

The White House said the money would pay for the "first 1,000 of 6,000 new Border Patrol agents that will be deployed in the next two years," as well as the temporary deployment of up to 6,000 National Guard troops to states along the Mexican border. The request includes funds for new fencing and other barriers as well as two new unmanned surveillance aircraft and five helicopters to curb illegal immigration.
I also saw these nice little photos.

Shut up Paco.

This is at the border right? And every single time I see a sign like this I can usually shoot what's on it, like deer, right?

Re: Mexico threatens to sue the U.S. over troops on the border

The issue of Mexico suing the U.S. will result in nothing but a "Mexican Standoff". Mexico has never gotten far in US Federal Court concerning earlier issues of troops on the border. We are a sovereign nation. We've had elements of our National Guard on our borders since the mid nineties. So WTF?

Although it is not nationally publicized, a whole brigade of Armored Cavalry (1st Cavalry Division) was moved from Ft. Hood, Texas to Ft. Bliss, Texas. Ft. Bliss is less than 5 miles from the US/Mexican border in El Paso. The last time we had Cavalry assigned close to the border was when Poncho Villa was causing problems.

Also, we currently have Armored Cavalry units doing border surveillance in New Mexico working with the US Border Patrol.

So what's new?
