Mk3 Golf Not Starting

Hi, i have a 1992 mk3 golf 1.4. The other day i replaced both battery terminals, i have put new ones on correctly and am sure all wires are connected to the battery which should be. However now i have done this the car will not start. When i turn the key none of the dash lighs up, it trys to start but seems that it isnt sparking. I am guessing i have blown a fuse or a relay, i have checked all the fuses in the fuse board and they are all fine. And this is where i am stuck. I do not know what to try next. Could you please tell me what relays i could have blown or if this is a common problem and how to reslove it, also could you tell me if if there are any fuses in the engine bay and ifso where i can find them to check them. Hope this is enough info for you to understand the problem and hopefully you can help me figure it out. Thanks alot.

Ian Cowie.
