97 Front Stabilizer Link

The front right stabilizer link on my 97 4Runner needs replacing. Is this something the average guy can replace or are there expensive tools needed? The front left link went last year and I'm trying to save the $80 for labor the dealer charged last year.
Is this a common part to deteriorate on these vehicles or is this an indication of other suspension problems? Ilive in Ohio with a lot of salt used in the winter on the roads.

Thanks in advance

Re: 97 Front Stabilizer Link

Are you talking about the cross link?
If so there is currently a recall on this for all Toyota trucks & 4Runners.
SO get it ready for alignment relace any parts OTHER than the cross link that need replacing and have the recall done they will align it all at no cost!

Search this thread for all the threads about the recall.

Yup, you can do it by yourself in 15 minutes. The tools you need are:
1. 14mm deep socket - for upper nut on front end links
2. 17mm socket - for lower nut on the front end links

3. 6mm hex socket - for holding lower bolt on front end link while turning 17mm nut.
Unbolt the top nylock nut and the lower nut (make sure you have to hold the lower bolt with the 6mm hex socket to keep it from turning) disconnect the bad end link. To install - do the said steps in reverse order or whatever you may find easier....
Torque specs:
End Link upper nuts........14 Ft./Lbs.
End Link lower nuts.........51 Ft./Lbs.

Re: 97 Front Stabilizer Link

Why do all your underlined instructions (including your name) have a link to bring me to AF home?

Strange
