Idling Problems

My Lumina when you first start it idles erratically just below 3000 rpm's. What can i do to fix this problem. It wont stop reving high until its heated up.
When you push the accelerator then let off, something is clunking in the belt area.

Re: Idling Problems

you have the symptoms of when an intake gasket starts leaking on you model. The car has a vacuum leak, allowing too much air into the engine when cool, then when the engine heats up and the parts expand, the vacuum leak is eliminated. The clunk you're hearing from the belt area is either a bad serpentine belt tensioner, or the timing belt is starting to go.
