00 Grand Prix// problem after problem

Iwent to Auto Zone to get them to do a check engine light well at least they tried they could not get a reading at all on nothing. They told me i had a blown fuse but we couldn't find it. I hope everyone is patient with me i am new at this also when i am driving the rpm goes up excessively more than normal or shall i say higher than normal if i am doing 60 it will go all the way up to 3 (3,000) .it does come down but it will go up again. I have been told that it may be the EGR Valve. If anyone could help me with it would be highly appreciated..

Re: 00 Grand Prix// problem after problem

It sounds like a transmission related problem, like a possible TCC solenoid going bad. The TCC solenoid controls the torque converter lock-up, and if the TCC is not staying locked, it will cause the RPM fluctuations you describe. The reason A-Z's scanner isn't picking anything up, is that their scan tool is capable of pulling generic OBDII codes only and not drivetrain related codes. Your best bet is to take it to a shop that can pull drivetrain codes to be sure what the issue is.

What i meant was when he plugged in the A-Z scanner it didnt even register anything. It couldnt give out any type of reading on anything that is the reason i was told that I have a blown fuse.

Re: 00 Grand Prix// problem after problem

The Autozone scantool DOES read tranny codes, they just need to look the code up in the repair manual. The code comes up as a PO1547(or such a number) and then you go to the haynes repair manuals and look up the code. Does the car have an aftermarket chip in it? Because i've ran into that...trying to pull codes and comes up as nothing. If there is any aftermarket add-ons, your obdII is more difficult to read. The code readers would say "system pass" if there are no codes stored in the ecm. I have the same scantool as AutoZone, that's the only reason i can relate. If nothing is showing up on the scantool, then either the key wasn't on when they tried to read it(hey everybody screws up~!), or there is a problem with your ecm.

3K @60 almost sounds like its staying in 3rd. I guess the one of the power steeringlines rubs on the VSS so check that out.
