The Engine Blew Up!!!

hi guys..

(sorry l am posting my corolla here.. l posted on corolla forum too but it is so slow and nobody answers.. so l thought maybe you guys can help me with you basic engine knowledges.)

as you know l have 1.8L 94 toyota corolla.. l had oil light on last 2 days and l didnt have chance to change my oil and yesterday while l was driving to work 90mph. engine suddenly popped and huge smoke came out of the exhaust and then check engine light came on and the car stopped.. l put on neutral and pulled over. l waited a little while and then engine started but it makes huge noise.. like the pistons hits the walls or something.. when l put the car on gear.. the car still moves.. but front of the engine sprays oil to radiator.. l guess my block cracked or something.. shortly.. l am 99.9% sure my engine is GONE! my mechanics says that he can get a rebuilt one and put it on my car for 1400 bucks and l said forget it.. and l know noone would buy this car with engine blew up. today l slowy tired to unplug cables from my engine to remove engine and install the new one.. but l am not sure that l am gonna be successfull.. the engine has hundreds of cables.. DO YOU GUYS THINK THAT I CAN REPLACE THE ENGINE BY MYSELF? l am planning to rent floor jack to support transmission and that thing which lifts the engine.. but l dont wanna completely start untill l am sure that l can do it by myself.. and l need some suggestions and help..

l tried everything to remove drivebelts but l couldnt do it. can someone pls. help me about this too?

Sounds like it puked a rod. Not sure why, but you now know the after affect.

I'd just get a junkyard motor.

The key to successful motor swaps is prep work. There is no shame in labeiling items. Another nice thing to do is make a template of the piece your disassembling, say the exhaust mainfold, draw the basic gist of it on a caroard box top and poke holes for all the bolts to go in, so they go back in teh same place they came from. The only real pain is the rats nest of vacuum lines Toyota loves to route all over the place.

well evebn if l find free motor (which is not possible but lets assume) l will still have to pay 600 bucks to my mechanic to put the engine to my car..

how much do you guys think that l can sell this car? everything is perfect eveyrhting is power and a/c working great.. just with blown engine.. for how much can l sell this car and where would be the best place to sell?

man, l didnt appriciate my formula but now she is taking me all over and supporting me..

$1400 installed with a new engine isn't bad at all. Heck, isn't a new engine like $1000 for your car? Anyways, just pay the money to have it done right.

Crap Doodad, you need to start working on vehicle maintenance. If the oil light comes on always change it asap. You'll save yourself a spun rod bearing that way.

Why did you keep driving it with the oil light on? Did you at least check the oil level when the light came on to see if was something simple like low oil level and not pressure due to oil pump going? Anyway, swapping out one of those motors isnt something you can do in the driveway. It is almost necessary to have a lift for this job. Not to mention all the little details of pulling a motor that require a bit of knowledge...not something to take lightly. Unless you plan on keeping this car for its mileage or really like the car, I doubt its worth paying 1400 bucks to get a motor put in it. Though selling it with a blown motor probably wont get you much, so I guess it depends on what you really want here. If you sell it, youre probably going to take another hit.

the oil light was comibng on for one sec. and then it was goin off.. and l wanted to change buy l didnt get a chance for 2 days and third day at 5 am l was goin to work and after work l was gonna change but on the way work it blew. l cant pay 1400 bucks to that car.. if anyoner would give me a 1000 bucks for that l am ok.. also l found an engine with 90k miles on it for 450 bucks..

thaks for helps guys.. l really dont know what to do.. l guess it is time to look for second job..

How much did you pay for it? Over here in California people ask for ridiculous money for toyota corollas. Some bonehead tried to trade me his 2003 Corolla for my WS6, straight.

Hard to beleive you admit driving after the oil light came on . You might be able to get a reman unit from one of the auto parts stores but you will lose the core return . you would easily put $2000 in that way though. Rob

well, im sure doodad can buy a beater for <1.4K.. if i can buy a beater V6 camaro for 500, he can get one for < 1K. =) just get a crapy daily driver and baby that baby of a formula haha. nah, idk :]
hope all goes better tho.. just read your post about getting rear ended >_< hopefully the other car was lowered..and went under your car and hit only the bumper support or something..

I took a look at some of your other posts, Doodad, and you seem to really like cars, especially your Firebird, so do not take this as an insult, but you really need to learn something about basic vehicle operation. When the red oil light blinks it means a loss of oil pressure, and oil is what keeps your motor from tearing itself apart. It does not mean you need to change the oil, it means you have a loss of oil pressure, maybe due to a lack of oil and maybe for some other reason. It is not a reminder, it is a warning.

You can't run an engine with low oil pressure, and just a heads up, you can run it when the coolant temperature is too high either. To drive for two days with your oil pressure light coming on was just asking for trouble.

If this is the car you posted pictures of when you first bought it, it is probably worth putting an engine into. Without it running, it is practically worthless.

If you want to try to pull the engine yourself, get some friends who know something about it to help you. It looks simple on the TV shows when they do it in a half hour, but there is a lot hooked up to modern engines and it all has to get put back right.

I wish you the best of luck. Please please please take some time to learn basic auto care so you don't blow up the 'bird.

l decided to donate my corolla to goverment so they can use it for poor people.. (actually l am not rich tho )

l didnt mod` toyota, and also in the future, l wont mod any daily drivers. why would l? it was daily driver and toyotas are more relaible than hondas.. (thats what my mechanics said and whoever l know here.)

my engine didnt die by itself.. l murdered it.. didnt change the oil on time..
