Re: Power steering??

You have to replace the steering rack with a power one, but it should work fine..in all reality, the pup is just a pump..all of the workings of it are in the rack itself. Its power assist so you should still have nice road feel and response...but be able to turn the wheel at a stop.

Re: Power steering??

heres some pics of the removal..

all nice and clean..still gotta do some more work. gotta take out the front and rear motor mounts and the shift rod.

Frodo i dont understand what all would i need to make the power steering work?? Could i just leave the pump on the engine and not hook it up??

oh and i figured out the new engine comes with an ac compressor on it already so the bracket will work..i think ill just have to get mine discharged and hook up the lines to the new one

Re: Power steering??

Power steering was a rare option for fourth gens, you rarely see it (I'v only seen one). If you dont want it you can just take the pump off the block. To use it you will need to replace your steering rack with one that is made for power steering. your also probably going to have to have custom bent AC lines, if you get it to fit with it in there, most people just do away with the AC.

Re: Power steering??

I saw a hatch with power steering in a junkyard..didnt know it was that rare, or I would have ripped it out on the spot! But yes, you just take the pump off if your not using it..or just dont run a belt to it, but to use the PS youll need the rack to put on the car, then run the fluid lines..As for the AC, I believe it will have different fittings on the compressor than your lines so just keep that in mind.

And only JDM crx's had power steering.

Re: Power steering??

Power Steering was standard on Automatic hatches.
I loved my hatch w/Power Steering.

Re: Power steering??

I was about to ask about the rack myself...my steering components are not great anyway (one turbuckle is shot) and I was thinking about just replacing the whole rack.
