Help w/ Install of Serpantine Belt

I really need help w/ installing my serpantine belt. I have a 2002 Toyota Corolla. I have purchased the correct belt for my engine, I have an idea of which way it goes on but I am getting stuck w/ the tension. I am trying to release a bolt but it is not giving. What is the correct way to put it on??? Any suggestions...

Re: Help w/ Install of Serpantine Belt

I belive the haynes manual goes into good detail about it, it uusually goes for under $20 and is def worth the investment...but it is a pain in the ass job since the wheel has to be removed to get access to it but yea haynes will give you diagrams and a good understanding on how to do it

Re: Help w/ Install of Serpantine Belt

Well I picked up the Haynes manual. Unfortunately, it doesn't cover the belt change in as much detail as I hoped. With the hood open looking down at the belt there isn't a lot of clearance to get an arm through.

I might have to put the car on jack stands and start from the bottom with someone applying pressure to the tensioner so I can put the belt on the bottom pulleys then to the top. I thought about changing the tensioner as well as it is leaking but that is covered in even less detail.

You had to remove the steering wheel?

There are two bolt like shapes, one is actual bolt second smaller, above of first one is not a bolt, just its head, to rotate and release tensioner. Put some wrench on it and try rotate tensioner.

Found this in another Automotive Forums Thread:

This is from a 1999 Toyota corolla, 1.8L, automatic trans, with air conditioning and may differ on other cars.

This shows the best. Scroll down to bottom of page. Need 19 mm hex head wrench.
