AMT/MPC Can Am racer

Does anyone have any info on the history of this kit? It has a funky, jet looking engine I searched on google, but found nothing on this kit. Any help would be awsome.
Thanks.

This is a model of the McKee/Howmet Turbine Can-Am car. I don't know if the car ever actually competed in the Can-Am series. I can't find much info on it.

Re: AMT/MPC Can Am racer

Thanks for that little bit of info. I was able to find some pics of the sister car, I reckon. The unused parts in the kit look like they would be used on the closed version.

Here is the engine:

Re: AMT/MPC Can Am racer

The closed car ran at Daytona in I think 1968. I have the original release of both kits. the closed version has a big chunk of chrome for the rear engine cover.
the closed version never finished the race hitting the wall coming back up on the banking in turn one, it slid up and hit the wall on the banking.

Oy..hehe..Too bad for that team. The car and engine are really interesting looking. Yea, in the unused parts, there is that huge chrome mesh grille, the front hood, a different dash, and a few bracings. Thanks agian for the info/input
