Cupholders - Simple question!!!

I feel like an idiot having to ask about this since I know it is probably so simple. I am trying to remove the front cupholders on a 1993 caprice classic. I got the ashtray out by just pulling. The cupholders however do not want to come out. I have tried pulling and moving them around. I have felt a small tab in the back of the unit which I believe is holding it on but am not sure. I also have noticed the metal frame it attaches to can come out so I wondered if that was the solution. If anyone could let me know if there is something I am missing or some special way to get the cup holders out that would be great. Thanks.
