I can only imagine this is my trans, but I'm posting for your guys help as I am not too sure what I;m dealing with. I have a 95 max manual and it more recently seems to be a bit choppy when I drive. Meaning when I release my foot from the gas pedal and then push it lightly again, the car seems to "engage" hard. Or I will be pushing the pedal lightly and it will make slight noises like it can't hold steady. The car maintains it's speed and it doesn't seem to be reving excessively (aka trans slipping).
Maybe related, maybe not, when I puch in the clutch and switch gears I notice the sound in the trans like I can hear the trans working. A sound I never heard before. Any clues on where to start? I'll keep you posted with your ideas at work. Thanks. |

Re: 95 trans issues help
To clearify Nahkapohjola, the clutch doesn't show signs of slipping. the trans seems to be engaging and disengageing as I press the pedal lightly. As it gets worse, I think this problem seems to be more prominent even though more pressure is on the pedal. When the car re-engages it is a very obvious feel and I'm not sure what the is related to. If it is a loose engine mount, I'm not sure how that would relate, but more unsure how to actually diagnose the symptom. Is there any detailed info on this?? Thanks

Re: 95 trans issues help
1 "the clutch doesn't show signs of slipping.
2 "...trans slipping... 1+2 ... I dont know whats the issue you try to explain. Tranny is a box of gears engageable via stick - no slippin possible. Clucth is used to disengage engine from wheels allowing free change of gears (relatively simple issue.) Slips 'always' when dis/engaged. Principals here: http://www.howstuffworks.com - Moisture or airbubbles in clutch liquid cause myriad problems but NOT IF serviced as it should, change 'all' liquids once in 2yrs. - Worn clutch/work cylinder seals? - 'all info' at Favorite Links top left http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/1 - If you have 150k miles on the clucth and pedal feels uncomfortable, just replace. - Lots ppl have complained of loose mounts, typical problem. Goto a known reputable repairshop and ask wassup, then take a second opinion.

Re: 95 trans issues help
What I mean by not slipping is that when I push the pedal the rpms rise with a cooresponding increase in speed, not rpm rise without speed increase. I have changed the trans fluid 3 times this year (because I had to change both cv halveshafts). I doubt that is the issue. I'm just looking for guidance so as to save money when I take it in....if I can't fix alone.

Re: 95 trans issues help
If engine mounts age [below, 6. =front], they become loose. Means jerky behavior; one may get car jumping 'in the air' with slight gas pedal pumping. If axles have been worn, mounts have also had their share of (s)miles. Replace
