What is bad luck anyways?

Okay we all experienceda "bad luck situation" like failling an exam after studying all night or have a drunk driver crash into our car and WE have to pay the damages. anything like that, but is it really bad luck? i mean..luck doesnt really exist, cause anything can happen to anyone and any time, good or bad. so does the word "luck" really mean anything at all to start off with? cause nothing really lucky, its just life..so bad luck doesnt exist either right? its just...normal life situations?

Luck is our way of explaining the impossible, or improbable
such as,
Narrowly missing getting hit by a car -its like; how is that possible? I came this close...boy am I lucky.
or, How did I hit that baseball? I was sure I was going to miss...I must be lucky.

Luck explains the improbable.

Bad luck is the same, it also explains the improbable but in a more negative fashion.
such as
Damn! My tire blew out; I'm going to be late for work...It must be bad luck.
or, Damn! Out the hundreds of cars in the lot, the bird only shit on mine...my car must be bad luck.


Luck is what we use to answer for improbable events, the events that we will think never or are very unlikely to happen.

Bad luck..? Well anything could be bad luck, honestly it all depends on what you call bad luck or good luck. People will think they're having an unlucky day if stuff doesnt go right for them or they might call themselvs unlucky if stuff isnt always going their way. Just how you think about it.

When I look back on the whole good luck bad luck thing, I think of how many times i've narrowly missed a car, or stop myself from saying something at an all too innapportune time stuff like that. It's then I realize just how much good luck I have. this may not have anything really to do with the topic just something I thought of.

Seems to me that good luck is always something totally improbable (like someone stepped out, and stopped fate.) I think people usually make up bad luck in their own minds by thinking of negative things (kinda the same way we believe in fortune cookies, or astronomical signs. We make these dillusional connections)

Honestly I do believe in good luck, but bad luck I feel is just a figment*sp?* of our imagination. Think about it.

Definitely agree. Luck is just a little explanation for things happening in a certain fasion, It really is in your mind.
Say you won a lottery, it is not luck, its just guessing the right combination of numbers, but I do believe that by your attitude towards things you can change your so calle "luck".
For instance, if you et pulled over by a police officer, and you just think "fuck, I am so busted", you will be, as on some level you will show your guilt, and if you are cool and positive about the situation, most likely the officer will be nice and let you go.
This is a little hard to explain, try reading "The Luck Factor", interesting book, the author really emphisizes that people who believe they are lucky, are. And those who think they are just pure bad luck, often times are.
Really it all depends how you look at things.

Luck is an easy term, though not existing. Like time, we can't live without time, though time doesn't exist.

Luck is just the way things happen. A bad time is bad luck. Narrowly avoiding a bad time is good luck. Narrowly missing a good time is bad luck. Having a great time is good luck. There's no explanation of what luck really is, but you can use it to describe something.

I think the only thing about luck that requires any type of definition is where do you draw the line on calling it luck? It must be something that could not be controlled by anything but the odds alone.




I'm not saying I don't think karma has anything to do with luck. I think karma is a major factor, just based on experience.
