Spun bearing?

Hi, I'm new to the automotive scene, (just got my first car), and I've got an Eclipse with a spun bearing. Does anyone have any links or info on how to replace/fix the bearing? Or would I be better off bringing it to a mechanic?

Re: Spun bearing?

If you have no idea what your doing, bring it to someone that does. Have you rebuilt a engine before?

Yeah I basically have no idea what I'm doing. What do you think it'll run me?

What year and model eclipse is it? I have no idea what it will run you until then. And where are you located? How much you pay for the car?

Hi Joe, take it to your mechanic if you can afford it, it's gonna be over a grand to rebuild/replace it regardless of what engine it is. I take it you dont know what it means to spin a bearing so i'll explain and show you a picture. When you spin a bearing it's usually from being warped on the cap(main or rod etc..), it's caused by lack of lubrication or some kind of foreign material, or even pieces of metal getting into the oil system. When this happens there's friction from the two metals rubbing together and this causes wear on the bearing, eventually it can cause a very loud knocking noise that only gets louder until finally the engine seizes up. By now, even if only one bearing was messed up to begin with the metal debris and lack of lubrication eventually causes all of them to go bad. This can lead to other mechanical issues such as throwing rods or just plain locking up due to high friction and such. There are ocassions when you can just replace the bearings and be done(as is the case with some cadillacs) but usually a complete engine overhaul is required. Below is a picture of a spun main bearing-
