Re: Help with my tranny plz

What year and model Grand Prix do you have to include engine size?

Some of the tranny sellers on EBay are reputable and put out a good product, especially the ones selling remanufactured ones.

Are you asking how hard it is to swap a tranny Do It Yourself (DIY)? It is a PITA.

Re: Help with my tranny plz

WHATEVER YOU DO STAY AWAY FROM PHOENIX HARDPARTS!!! aka Phoenix Remanufactured Transmissions they are absolutely worthless. My dad made the mistake of using them and two tranny's later the car still doesn't drive and they won't refund him the money. Professional tranny shop around here opened up the tranny and found parts floating around inside, They also had two more trannys come in from Phoenix HP with same problem. Checked with the BBB, Holy shit talk about complaints WOW. Research before U Buy!!

Thats interesting. Phoenix Retrans has a 99.7% feedback rating on EBay with over 4000 transactions.

About a 18 months ago we had a Phoenix Retrans remanufactured 4T65E put into a '01 Chevy Impala LS. After winning the bid, we went to Phoenix, AZ and had them install the tranny. No problems noted and it works like a champ.

It's possible a few get by quality control and people will have problems. I believe the trannies are redone at a plant located in Mexico so its probably like a box of chocolates. You never what you'll get.

Re: Help with my tranny plz

I noticed that, but they seem to be smart about not screwing over people that use them through Ebay because then there's a way to track it. My dad did not go through Ebay, therefore there is no public reprecussion. Only after the fact did we go online and check the Better Business Bereau and find out we were definitely not the only one with this problem. And it still doesn't excuse their lack of customer service.

Nothing wrong with that. Good experience. Just make sure you get the right replacement tranny. The '97 Grand Prix SE/GT may have a 4T60E. Later on in the production year and into '98 it was replaced with the 4T65E. You can tell by looking at the SPID label on the back of the trunk lid. Look for RPO code M13 (4T60E) or M15 (4T65E).

You'll need an engine hoist to support the engine. Both axle shafts will need to be removed along with a bunch of other parts. Basically, the tranny will be removed by raising car up high enough and then dropped down after removing the subframe. Good luck!

Re: Help with my tranny plz

Ok so i looked in my trunk and the code I found was M13. Is the (4T60E) the part number stamped on the tranny?

There is an identification number but I do not recall what it is or where it is located. The M13 RPO means you do have a 4T60E and not the 4T65E. Another way to tell is it will have a vacuum modulator and the main electrical connector is smaller since there are only about 5 - 6 wires. The 4T65E does not have a vacuum modulator and the electrical connector ( 20 way) is bigger.

BTW - The mistake you made was not taking it to them and having them install it as we did.
