Check Engine Light

I Have A 2002m Tb Ls And It Has 70,000 Miles. My Check Engine Light Came On. There Was No Funny Sounds Or Anything. So I Took To The Shop To Get It Hook Up To The Computer. Anyway, It Said That The Gas Cap Wasn't Tight Enough. Did This Happen To Anyone Else..just Wondering..thanks..

Re: Check Engine Light

I haven't had it happen personally, but it is very very very very common with tb's.

Re: Check Engine Light

Yea, it's happened to me a time or two. If it is common, get a new gas cap. My moms kept coming on and it turned out she need a new cap. 4 dollars later, no more problems.

Re: Check Engine Light

It did happen to me. My engine light came on for no seen reason. After consulting On-Star they told me it could be my gas cap was not on tight. Sure enough, I gave it a twist and about two days later the light went out.

Re: Check Engine Light

Yep, had the same problem about a month ago. read through the manual and it said if the light wasn't flashing that it was likely something as benign as the gas cap. Re-installed the cap, light went off within about 10 miles and we haven't seen it since.

that was the first repair that didn't cost me $1,500!

Re: Check Engine Light

A loose gas cap is probably the #1 cause of a SES light on any 1996+ OBDII compliant vehicle. If you read the code it will be EVAP system related. 99% of the time it's a loose gas cap. The evaporative emissions system (EVAP)needs to read a positive pressure in the gas tank. No pos pressure = SES light.
