95 lumina 3.1 electrical problems
hello, im new to the site and would like to introduce myself, im jay the honda guy from off the honda block
i am looking at buying this lumina for my girlfreind for real cheap (500 bux!) it has an electric problem though. the battery goes dead everyday. once you jump it and get it running, you hear a noise coming from the speakers when you turn, when you put the turn signal on even if the radio is not turned up at all, it makes that shorting out sound and matches the blinking of the turn signal. (it sounds like a heartbeating, its really creepy!) could this be a problem with the radio? also, sometimes when you driving it just out of nowhere the speakers will pop like i mentioned before. any help with this is greatly appreciated. thanks...jay |

Check for bad grounds and battery connections, check alternator output.

Re: 95 lumina 3.1 electrical problems
thanks for the quick responce, the car has a brand new battery and wires, brand new starter, brand new altenator, all have been replaced in an attempt to remedy this apparent electric problem. the guy is a "mechanic" and is dumbfounded as to the reasons for this problem which has persisted he says for over a year now. he had replaced the entire engine over 30k miles ago, so im assuming perhaps he might have wired soemthing wrong or soemthing maybe. i dont want to buy a car thats gonna cost me thousands to fix. but the price is real rite at 500 bux, it has high miles but is real clean and runs great when it *runs*

Re: 95 lumina 3.1 electrical problems
THe turn signal/multifunction switches in these cars are a pretty common problem. It is a very good chance that this is your problem. The other issue is when he changed the motor, he may not have hooked up all the engine ground straps and the sound you hear is the car seeking it's own ground by backfeeding the circuit. Since the battery is going dead, I'd change the multifunction switch, as it sounds as if it's drawing power when the car is off. You can pull the negative cable and put a multimeter set to milliamperes. If you have a draw of more than 5mA (give or take a couple) with all electircal accessories off, you have a short to track down. You can start pulling fuses and relays (one at a time of course) until the draw drops. This will narrow down the circuit where the short exists.

Re: 95 lumina 3.1 electrical problems
Hey, I have a 95-3.1 with about the same problem, only the battery would go dead if I did'nt start the engine for about 2 days. I've never been able to actually find the short circuit..but.. I did remove the fuse which supplies power to the radio when the key is out of the ignition and that cured the battery drain problem. Now, I lose the clock and other meory for the radio but I no longer have the dead battery problem.... so, sounds like the battery power circuit could be your problem as well, if you find the actual component or wire thats draining your battery, please post so that others will know where to look..try unplugging that fuse..it might help..also..i notice that my Lumina has a habit of building up quite a "static' charge while driving and when you exit the vehicle, you always get a nice shocking snap..could this be an indication of a poor ground?????
