Unhappy tranmission troubles

Please, someone tell me I dont have to rebuild the whole transmission...
When coming to a complete stop the transmassion will not drop into first gear. When you go to take off the motor justs revs, then all of a sudden it will pick up first gear with a bang, kinda like getting bumped from behind. I hate to dump $2000+ into a 98.

Re: tranmission troubles

I have a 2001.. A few years back right after i got it the transmisson begain to slip. I had the fluid changed at the dealer a flush and fill by machine and no problems after that.. I do now however have it changed about every year. Mercon V seems to burn up quicker but thats the only type I can run so i keep it changed. Another problem could be the transmissions speed sensor. Hope this helps..

The first-intermediate servo is very easy to service with the tranny in-place. Only takes a slow afternoon and $20 worth of parts. I think it would be worth your while.

Re: tranmission troubles

Hi, Just a few questions. With the vehicle running and in neutral, Does it engage or bump into drive or reverse and the from drive or reverse does in bang or bump going into neutral? If so you have a band problem, There is aford TSB on this problem that recomends replaceing the band, BUT a lot of time this can be corrected by a simple fluid change with mercon 5 fluid...Giv it a shot you have nothing to loose...See Ya, Clay..
