How to get keys out of ignition

Hi folks,

Well, my car just simply died. I bought a brand new battery, the next day it's dead again. The lights flickered while driving then when I got home, it wouldn't start again.

The keys are still in the ignition. I can't get it to come off... when I turn the keys, nothing but it will not turn back all the way through to be able to pull the keys out.

I tried jumping and it did not work. At this point, I can't even get it to the dealership to have the electrical checked. Any advice on how I can get the keys out without forcing it?

thx

See the Envoy Forum page #3 from a person named "junk". It sounds like he had the same problem in Decemeber of 2005. Bent linkage could be the problem not allowing your vehicle to go into park.

Re: How to get keys out of ignition

my mother in law has an 03 envoy that did the same thing. i went over to check it, thinking it wasn't all the way in park or ignition wasn't all the way off. battery was completely dead. truck was in park, and everything was right, but the key wouldn't come out. when i hooked up my truck to jump it the interior lights came on, and at that point i was able to turn the ignition the rest of the way off and get the key out. replaced the battery, went dead the next day. ended up having it towed to stealership-one of the cables was corroded. replaced that and put another neew battery and it's been fine since.

Check the steering column there might be a little button you can push. There might be a little cap over the hole. Just use something small like a pen to reach in to push the button.
