Bcm?

About two weeks ago, I had a friend install an after market deck into my 2004 Grand Am. The first thing I noticed was the deck stayed on permanently and had to be turned off manually. I figured he may have justed didn't connect the remote wire correctly. Not long after the lights in the dash and some of the interrior lights stopped working. Now the tail lights no longer work. I ran a diagnostic on the car and returned no trouble codes. I removed the deck from the dash and saw that he had cut the wires from the origional harness and hard wired straight into the new decks leads. I tried to order a new harness but no one manufactures one, nor could I find a matching year in any salvage yards. I noticed that quite a few wires were not even connected to anything and believe it may have shorted something out . I talked to some GM guys and they figure it may have damaged the BCM (body control module) I dont really want to have to pay for work that I can do myself, so if anyone knows if this is really the problem can you let me know and give me some tips on how to repair it, i would be greatly thankful.

Not really helpful but DAMN, seems like you more knowledgeable curious why you had your friend (who doesn't seem to know too much) do it. As far as the BCM being messed up it is possible if any of the cut wires shorted to the data line going to the BCM. Based on your symptoms and the assumption you haven't blown fuses I think the gm guys pretty much on the mark since the only connection to the lights in the radio wiring is the illumination wiring (if any in the '04 grand am's) and the BCM data line. A short in the illumination wiring would likely blow a fuse and take out all the lights on the fused circuit, a short to the BCM data line would mess up the BCM circuits and cause a variety of odd symptoms.

Like I said not much help.

As far as the wiring, your friend cut the factory end off short (wires cut really close to the connector so it can't be reconnected)? I would imagine such item could be obtained at a dealer, if not you can always order one online (scosche makes them) or visit a junk yard and get one. As for wiring the radio and the always powered up issue you need an adapter like this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Q7KZweQ...sp?i=120GMRC01 to give you your chime and a switched 12v lead to hook to the radio.
