'73 Celica(RA21) help

Is there anybody familiar with this Celica? It's a '73 Celica with the 18R-C engine and chassis code RA21.

I'm looking for a place that would sell an auto tranny for my Celica.
Also, I am wondering about swapping in the 7MGTE. Will it fit nicely without a lot of fabricating.
What other engines would you suggest I swap into my car?

Kevin

Yup, Ive got one, a 73 st as well, they seem to be the most common surviving old school celica year/model combo, especially since the GT didnt come to North America till 74...

I believe any rear wheel drive celica tranny should work, ie, early 80's

No, the 7m will not fit in a 73, only the 1976-1977's will have enough room for it... But the 1g will fit, and I'm almost positive the 1jz and 2jz will also both fit :-) And we all know how fun those can be!

If you want to learn more, go to www.classic-celica.com . The site is down right now but will be up in a few days, a week at most...

Re: '73 Celica(RA21) help

the 7m will fit in this car i know this cause i have done this swap may of times it just an issue with the motor mounts that u have to address but i would consider going to a later 22/20r hibrid. this consists of a 22r block best if a 80-84 and a 20 r any year head will work, this will give u and awsome amount of compression and not to much so that u wont blow the old girl to kingdom come. u can then look into getting all forged internal or do like me and have most of your internals nitried for a killer result. these motors are very strong but be wise with your combos or u will be picking your engine block out of your teeth for a while have fun!!!
