Re: synthetic

thats about it. if you leak any ANY oil, it may get worse, but i bought my sentra with 64k and switched to synthetic right away. it was fine past 110k. but i had no leaks and no burning.

synthetic oil has different additives that tend to harden seals against the surfaces, instead of making them expand like standard oil. this is fine, but if you leak, it will make it worse.

Re: synthetic

not all cars leak the same. if you dont leak now, you probably wont leak if you switch and i wouldnt worry. if you develop leaks, its just gaskets or seals that need replacing. its really not that bad. synthetic oil got a bad rap in its early years for causing leaks in cars that used lots of cork seals and such, but its much better now, and cars dont use as many cork seals. the only real thing is its much slicker than standard oil. thats where a lot of leaks happen because of.

in conclusion, if you dont leak now, i wouldnt hesitate to switch to syn.
