Parking brake problems

1999 blazer 4 door, 4x4 ls

this is my sisters car so bare with me, She says that the parking praking light is always one, but only that, no abs light. When i jupmed in it, the parking brake won't stay down, It does work, just doesn't stay down. I was looking to see if i could see a switch somewhere, but i couldn't find anything for the light. but ihave no idea why the pedal isn't staying down, Any Ideas?

Re: Parking brake problems

The switch is on the side of the Parking Brake Pedal Assembly. It's pretty basic, just two contacts with a light blue wire connected to one side. As for not staying down, the lever that contacts the gear is probably sticky with grease and dirt. Try spraying it with a degreaser until the lever moves free and then spray with a light lube.

Re: Parking brake problems

There is also a racheting mech up under there that locks the pedal down and then releases when you pull the release handle so check to see if something is binding up there. The adjustment is under the drivers side area outside frame (you can see it outside).

Re: Parking brake problems

I was able to look at it today, someone was there before me. She has an aftermarket alarm in there so wires are EVERYWHERE. I found a male elrictrical conection by the brake pedal with no home, it was a 4 wire sqaure pigtail im not sure where that goes i couldn't fine a home for it but anyway, i was looking at how i could get some brake clean and WD up there, it was really really tight. I finally just ripped off as many plastic panles as i could and has able to get some lube on the teeth,BUT it still wont stay down. the pedal does moves freeier and i can hear and feel the gears meshing like they do in my 97 blazer. but it wont stay i was looking how to take it off and work on it but i couldnt figuer out how to get the top nut off. There were 2 bolts on the bottom there easy, but that bolt is tough up top................ Any ideas?????

i May just forget about it its not that big of a deal, But now the Air bag lights on, One thing after the next with "Bow-Tie" products

Oh and the parking brake light is still lit, I may just take the bulb out of the cluster untill i can get it all fixed

Re: Parking brake problems

After you remove the two bolts, there is a 13mm nut on the upper edge of the parking brake assembly towards the rear of the vehicle.

For the SIR lite, you need a scanner to check codes. There isn't really any common problem with this system. Did you have the steering column out recently? Water inside the vehicle?
