Security Light

Hey guys this might be my key, but i want to check your opinions before spending 35 dollars on a key.
My Security light has been turning on during regular driving and turning off as it pleases i have had problems turning on my car execpt for the normal turning over that it always does.
You guys think its the key or what??

Re: Security Light

yep its the key mine did it last year when i had it out. always used the same key and the little theft "chip" was worn down. Used my spare set and haven't had any problems since. my light would come on irregularly and sometimes i turned the key and had nothing, had to wait till light went off to try again.

Re: Security Light

It can also be the cly. lock mechanism too. Some have had success blowing out the lock with air. Mostly that's just temporary. Usually though the tiny wires up inside the lock breaks or grounds out. The fix is either to replace it or bypass the VATS system with the correct resistor.

Here's what the tiny wires and plug look like. Scroll down to the picture with the lock and key. http://www.fieros.de/en/articles/vats.html

An easy way to check this is to use a multimeter. Check the pellet's code in the key then insert the key into the lock, unplug the VATS wires and test again from there. It should read within about 2% of what you got when you checked the key. Wiggle the key a little to see if the value changes. If it does, try to clean the lock or try another key if you have one. If it does the same thing, you need to repair/replace the lock.
