The Next Comp?

Yeah okay, probably way to early to be discussing this, but what the hell. We're still counting down to the eighties comp in July but what's next after that?

For me there is one option - Open wheel race cars! This will pricipally mean Formula One but also include CART, short track sprint cars, top fuel dragsters (or whatever they're called in your part of the world), anything with the wheels hangin' out there uncovered.

Or would we rather go with another decade - a prettier one. Or return to Le Mans? Rally cars are out thanks to Zeljko's competition (running this month BTW, so get your entries in!), but anything else is worth considering. How about only yellow or orange liveried cars? Or maybe we could even skip the theme this time and have anything goes.

Re: The Next Comp?

I really like the idea of open wheel. The specified lively option such as red or orange could mean you end up with nothing but Ferrari’s or Jagermeister models. Not that this would be totally bad, I mean there are a few Jagermeister models to build, but with open wheel you really have a wider selection, and from all periods.

Or you could say on open wheel model from say 1970 – 2000, giving a 30 year span of open wheel racing. As many kits have a whole world of aftermarket, plus some very nice mutli media kits, the pros can go to town, whereas the rest of us mere mortals can at least have a go with a Tamiya kit or something.

Would open wheel include bikes though? Technically, they are kinda of open wheel. LOL

Re: The Next Comp?

Actually with orange I was thinking of early (and late) McLarens.

If the theme was called "open wheel race cars" that would exclude bikes, but maybe something can be arranged.

Re: The Next Comp?

Is there really so much choice and so much to be excited about when it comes to racing Lamborghinis?

You're right: 1 second after post I'm wondering why Phil posted that in the wrong subforum

Drinking and smoking! I like it! Guess we'd have to include swastikas in "forbiden liveries" too.

Re: The Next Comp?

Not a bad idea with the tobacco and alcoholic sponsorships. I like that, could be –

Open wheel from the past 30 years, and needs Tobacco or alcohol sponsorship, and must be either –

Red
Orange
Yellow
Black
Blue

So, Ferrari with Marlboro decals, or a lotus with JPS, or an F1 car with Red Bull all over it… That would make a cool contest actually, sadly does mean you’d have to buy a kit, and then trawl all over trying to find decals etc for it.

Re: The Next Comp?

I think we just need to pick one theme rather than multiple restrictions. Participation is the name of the game. If we went with F1 (or open wheelers) it would be cool to have as many different eras as possible represented, remembering in the 50s and most of the 60s there was no sponsorship.

Re: The Next Comp?

Well I need to try searching by Google some Jack Daniel F1

A bit more fun:
- Red, Yellow or Black
- only tobacco/alcholic sponsor
- only fantasy liveryes

so you'll see finally the fiat 500 abarth Coaila

or better the brown 575GTC Moods vanilla kind

hey guys this could be fun: full freedom, full creativity, full motivation to marvel
