Grounding
Does applying a grounding kit for the battery/engine make it run better? I notice a shock wenever i exit my car wen i touch the metal part of the door or body. Just wondering if i would need a ground kit or if it makes a positive difference to the way my car runs.

i dont think that true. because any ground kit for any car factrory must be good enough, and i think there are no relation between the power and the ground. the ground is take the high or and aditinal voltes far from the engine and its componant.

People claim that they gain a few hp, but I've never seen proof (like a dyno test). If you use a grounding kit, you can make the car start easier and lights won't dim or dim as much. But it's not going to effect the static charge you get from the inside of the car. That's mostly from the materials used in the interior (like you rubbing against the seat or carpet), not something battery or chassis related.

No, what he's talking about can be felt if you are touching a hot (positive wire connected even when key is out) and touching the chassis. It's a sharp needle like pain that can cause some tingling. I tend to notice it when I'm working under the dash hooking up remote starts or similar apps that use power when the car is off. My bare leg would be touching the frame and I would be touching a hot wire and feel the pain on my leg. I don't know why you would experience it just getting in or out of the car? Do you have any exposed wiring?
Hany, I think you're awesome for trying to help but what you are talking about only applies when you are dealing with AC power. Yes you can see hp increases in the single lower digits when using a high output ignition sytem. The only other reason for using a grounding kit would be to help power large stereo systems or cars that use lots of electrical accesories. A gounding kit wouldn't fix the problem you're having with the door either, if anything it would make it more noticable. |

He never said anything about it being a painful thing or touching a wire and the chassis, only touching the door or chassis while getting out of the car. So I assumed it was just a static shock, though I could obviously be wrong. But his description doesn't really explain all that much (at least not to me). But I know what you're talking about, my Oldsmobile use to do that to me; because I either wired in my fog lights wrong or they had a brake in the wire that was touching the chassis (it also continually killed my alternator and battery). And yes it was very painful.

If you have bad ground it might help out delivering a better spark, or if you have a shitload of things grounded to the body, then grounding kit will help it complete the circuit.

You serious? I have never felt that before. You sure you are not pricking your finger with a piece of wire? This is getting off the subject, but the only way to discharge you and the car, is to have a piece of metal or wire touch the ground (earth) just before exiting the vehicle. This way, the piece of metal or wire will get the zap and not you. |

The reason cars are 12 and 24 volts is because of the shock factor. Electric car makers are having issues with DC voltage above 48 volts. Anything above that and electical shock will occur. They would love to have 96 volts, but with that much power, you could kill your self. DC is always more dangerous than AC. AC pulses on and off 60 times a second, thus 60 Hz. DC is constant power.
