Opel Corsa Project

Started a bit of a rush job today for a good friend's 40th birthday. Aiming to recreate his rally car using a Schuco 1/43 model that started off looking like this:

Lots of fiddling and gentle teasing apart I managed to strip the body shell free of its attachments.

Then a quick sanding down before primer

Then some white primer

That's it for now while I try to make some decals (very small) and add a coat of white gloss tomorrow. Not worked on a 1/43 model before hope I can get something half decent in terms of print quality for the decals from my old Epson printer.

PS Anyone have any tips how I can remove the drivers names from the original cars rear windows. It seems that they have been applied as like a screen print as opposed to a decal.

Re: Opel Corsa Project

Interesting project. Look forward to seeing more.

For the rear windows, it may be a quicker job to scratch build some with clear acetate/overhead transparancy, as they look pretty flat. Use the originals as a template.

Re: Opel Corsa Project

You could try nail varnish remover on a cotton bud, I have never tried to do this myself but its what was recommended on another forum I visit, and the surgestion came from a respectable builder so I recon its worth a shot

Re: Opel Corsa Project

Both good suggestions thanks. I think try the nail varnish remover first maybe and then if it knackers the windows, scratchbuild new ones. Hope the nail varnish works as i am pushed for time to get things finished.

Haven't dare touch it just yet. What sort of polish would you suggest?

Have just finished taking the yellow paint off with nail varnish remover after it started to bleed through the white primer. Seems to come off easily enough from the white metal body but I worry that nail varnish remover may react with the plastic of the windows.

Hello,

best solution is here: "alcool isopropylique" --- isopropylic alcohol ???
I'm not sure of english word for this product, but it's something available in pharmacy; it's also used to clean camera or electronic elements...

explanations (in French) here :

Ooooops.........knew I should have checked the forum first but had a bit of a gung ho moment this morning because of being in a rush to complete everything this weekend and used some nail varnish on a cotton bud.

Seems to have worked ok...fingers crossed that it's not had an effect on the plastic.

Re: Opel Corsa Project

Another quick update...

Coat of Tamiya white

Then printed the decals on both craftycomputerpaper white and clear waterslide paper while the white cured

Followed by some more paint with Mica Blue

Now on to cutting the decals out and fitting them hopefully later today

Excellent work Marco. You are getting to be a dab hand with the home made decals. How do you find the print quality on the Crafty Computer paper?

Thanks Steve.

Their papers are OK but the clear paper seems to carry the ink better than the white. Blues and reds in particular seem to separate slightly into ink blobs on the white paper. Do you know of a better quality paper as I would be keen to give it a go.

Re: Opel Corsa Project

Hey Marco,
I had the same problems with the blobby finish on the reds and blues with the Crafty Computer Paper.I am now using Experts Choice paper.I find it seems to take the ink a lot better and the colours appear clearer and brighter. It is slightly more expensive (about £3 a sheet) But it is worth the extra.Available at http://www.hannants.co.uk

Thanks for the info, I think I'll give it a go on my next decal project.

For now here's a few more progress pics with the body just placed back onto its wheels for show. Sorry for the quality 60w bulb and no flash on most doesnt help, but better than nothing.

Looks better in the flesh as these pics are a fair bit bigger than actual size so they show all of the rough edges. That's my excuse any way....
