Question Help with replacing Rad on 96 1.0 manual

Hi Everyone.

I have never replaced a radiator and mine needs it. It doesn't look to complicated but I thought I would ask if there are any pitfalls or recommendations on how to replace it.

Does $150 seem like a good price (NAPA), Auto Zone was $318.

96 metro 1.0 man. trans.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with replacing Rad on 96 1.0 manual

Price sounds high to me. Did you try looking online? I got one for my wife's Lumina a couple of years ago for around 100 bucks and it's MUCH larger than a Metro radiator.

I got a used Metro radiator online for 10 bucks. No leaks, still works fine!

Metro radiators are pretty expensive for what they are. Check out ebay, you can usually pick up a brand new aluminum one for $60. Check out froogle.com too. The radiator is REALLY easy. Unscrew the drain plug at the bottom, let it drain out. Take off the upper hose, then the lower hose, and unplug the rad fan. Take off the 2 tabs at the top holding it in, and then lift it out. If it takes you more than 10 minutes, you're just taking your time . There's a rubber mount that the radiator sits on when it's installed. Make sure it's there when you drop the new one in, or it will get damaged from bouncing around. The fan is a snap to take off. It's got 4 10mm bolts holding it on.
