JDM engine dist.

I Purchased a JDM engine for my 94 metro, it is the 3cyl. 1.0L, the distrbutor cap doesn't match anything at the parts store. What the hell did this motor come out of? The parts guy doesn't have a listing for a 3cyl swift and I dont know of anythig else to look up... Are they using this motor for other cars in japan? Any help on what engine or vehical might have this dist. would be great, thanks. BTW, my cap is short, and made by mitsubitisi, one at parts store is about 1-2 inches longer.

Well, just toss that dizzy. It's not made for U.S. computers. You're supposed to put the one from your current geo motor on it.

Re: JDM engine dist.

Yep, with the JDM you only want to use the bare block and head. Everything else comes from your old engine. Now would be a good time to replace the head gasket too!!! In Japan they run a carb on the engine. It's the same block and head as the us/canada version but most everthing else different. The one I had even had different pullies on it. USE EVERTHING FROM YOU OLD ENGINE!!

Don't forget to change the timing belt while the engine is out of the vehicle. You will kick yourself later if you don't do it now.

Re: JDM engine dist.

change the front seal and rear seal and the timing belt and pcv valve. what intake system it comes with from japan seems to depend on what year they pulled engine from and auto or manual tranny. most of the automatic tranny engines i buy come with fuel injection and all of the manual ones i have got come with carbs. there are 2 different timing belts used on 1.0 engines, a round tooth and a square tooth. make sure you look at old belt to be sure you get right one. if engine you get comes with FI you might be able to use intake and just change the throttle body. look at the back of your throttle body and see if it has a black box with about 5 wires on a plug going into it, if it does you have to change intake, if not you can use intake on motor it came with, throttle body might be same too. as far as head gaskets i haven't had one with a bad one yet and you can change them in the car if it ever does go
