1995 Grand AM 3.1L EGR code error

Check engine light has been coming on and it is time for emissions. Scanned car with Checkers code reader and it came up with 77 EGR #3 Solenoid failure. Bought a EGR valve for $200 bucks but light still comes on. I havent rescanned the car but I was wondering if anyone has seen this. The light comes on after car is warmed up and usually after letting off the accelerator.

Re: 1995 Grand AM 3.1L EGR code error

most likely the passage going from the egr valve into the intake manifold is clogged. if you take the throttle body off you'll see what i mean, i cleaned mine recently and no more cel. used seafoam deep creep and clothes hangar and compressed air to clean out the passage. i had a cel that would come on like clockwork at 55 mph while slowing down and had code p0401 everytime.

It looks like cleaning out the EGR passage helped. I took the car through emissions today and it passed and no check engine light. Thanks a bunch!!
