repairing a motor mount

I've got a 1990 Caprice Wagon with an Olds 307 engine. The engine is flopping around like a fish out of water, the driver's side lifts up when you put load on it.

I've tried to get a look at the mount, but its near impossible from above or below, to get a good look at it.

Bottom line, not knowing whether its loose or broken, is this something that can be repaired without pulling the engine? That may decide the fate of this car!

Thanks

You may not have to pull it, but you will at least have to lift it, then hold it safely while you work under the mount.

This is a job that is best done on a lift. I've done them with the car on ramps with a bottle jack to raise the engine off the mounts. You should pull the other through (long) bolt out of the other side to make it easier. The broken one will fall apart when you raise the engine up.

On the new mount, take a few minutes to clean out the bolt holes that may have molded rubber in them. Otherwise it is hard to get the bolts started.

Re: repairing a motor mount

i dont know about autos but i replaced a mount od a silverado and we put it in gear, reved and hit the ebrake, engine stalled and it was tilted. Bingo replaced the mount. But i dont know if you can do this with an automatic. Otherwise just get a board, jack the engine up a bit and wedge it to the side.
