Sebring vs Prelude 2.0Si

Why don't people warn you that they want to race? It seems that every time I get in a race from a dead stop I end up playing catch-up since I didn't even know we were racing until I hear their engine screaming past me.

Anyhow, I was on my way to work in the far right lane and I needed to be in the far right lane. In the middle lane is a Prelude 2.0Si. It looked to be an early 90s model. I was behind him but the light turned yellow so I took the right lane which was empty. When the light turned green I took off a little harder than I normally do, but nothing like I would in a race. Then I notice the Prelude gaining and I hear his engine screaming so I floor it. It took some doing but I ended up walking on him and passing him.

I felt bad for him though since he just got beat by the Sebring. That's just sad.

Re: Sebring vs Prelude 2.0Si

Nope, mine is a 98 LXi which has a Mitsubishi 2.5L V6 with 160HP and 172 ft/lbs of torque. This isn't horrible, but the automatic is geared horribly, that is if you want to fast.

I give my daily a lot of shit, but it really is an average car, speed wise. I wish I had one of the newer Sebrings like your dad's.

Re: Sebring vs Prelude 2.0Si

dont mean to highjack your thread, but the sebrings surprised me. Let me tell you a little story and I'll stop highjacking.

My dad and I were going to ft myers, I was driving my old 92 diamante and he had his 97 pontiac grand prix gt. So he calls me while I'm following him and he says "is that the best you can do?" I'm like aw man he's challenging me so I think, should I beat the old man (he's not old btw) or should I just catch up and pace him. I beat him.

About 6 months later he gets the 01 sebring. While we are leaving the office he says to me "think you could take this one?" I think, damn it he's doing it again! This is where I get it from! He put it into the tiptronic and down shifts to 1st and takes off with me trying to catch up. He completely wipes the ground with my ass. Needless to say I got owned...

Re: Sebring vs Prelude 2.0Si

Nice kill poly. My bro has a newer Intrepid with the 2.7 and that thing can really move for that small of an engine in that big of a car. Oh and I dont know if he has the same motor your talking about (but it is a 2.7) but it has 200hp and 190 lb/ft. Just a FYI.

I'm guessing I know what you mean. I'm not very impressed with mine in the power department and the fit and finish isn't the best. Everything else has been great, but I can't complain too much. I'm just used to a car with some more balls. It's a good daily driver, and it is what it is, and average car.

Anyhow, I looked up some numbers and his car has a curb weight of 2,600 pounds and he has 140HP. I have a curb weight of 3,200 pounds and 160HP. After finding that out I feel even better about this kill since I was disappointed that I didn't walk away from him faster. Then again it sucks that the Sebring is such a pig for its size.

Maybe that is why your father's Sebring beat you Gotian? Maybe he was light, or better gearing, or both?

Re: Sebring vs Prelude 2.0Si

Nice kill. Some of those 2.0Si Preludes from way back (88-91) are surprising. However, I've seen a bunch of beat lemons too. LOL... The Honda gurus say that B20 is the redheaded step-child of all b-series engines and doesn't match up to any other b-series (integra, crv, etc.)...

I like the 2001 Sebring 2 door coupe. If I wasn't so cheap at the pump I'd probably pick one up...
