1992 bonnie tps

I recently had my service engine soon light come on, so I pulled the code and it was 21, throttle position sensor. I was wondering if this is something that I can replace, and if so how, without a dealership tech 1 scan tool. I have a digital multimeter, but I never replaced a tps before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can replace it without a scanner. Simply remove the old one and then replace it with the new one. The TPS on the obd 1 cars does not take a scanner to change. Just make sure to remove the battery terminal and when you start the car you may need to do some tuning with the volt meter to get it properly set. You may want to purchase a chiltons or haynes manual for your car before you begin the procedure. Once you put the new one on then replace the battery terminal and start the car. You may have to hold the engine at a steady speed for a short time but it should go on easily.

Re: 1992 bonnie tps

Try setting it to 0.74 at idle, and about 5 volts at WOT.

Re: 1992 bonnie tps

I have removed a tps on my 95 Bon and reinstalled it, in an effort to isolate an engine check lite On, but did not do any of the adjustments noted below. I think I started to have idle problems ever since. I assume the tps is on the throttle body lower side, and is tied in to the throttle flapper. What is its function, and can you provide more details on how to adjust. Should the adjustment be performed with TPS removed. Where do you measure voltage and other.

Can you put your year, trim level and motor in your sig.,, it will help us
help you.

on a '95 there is no adjustment for the TPS

it tells the ECM(computer) how far open or closed the throttle
is and yes it's on the side of the T/B round plug.
