2002 Impala wont start

First off, nice site! Now, here we go. '02 Impala(sedan) 3.4L, 64,000mi. Purchased used about 2 months ago. About 2weeks after we bought it I drove it to the local wal-mart. I come back out of the store pop the key in the ign. Turn it and the engine just sits there and rotates. I call my wife and sit there very frustrated for about 20 minutes until she arrived. So I say to her let me try it again before we have it towed. Bam, It cranks up just fine and I drive it home. So I take it back to the dealership the following day, and they send me to a mechanic at there expense. The mechanic scans it and finds a faulty oil pressure switch, and replaces it. I drove it home and had no problems until a week later same thing, Rotates, but wont start, then sit awhile then it will crank. This happens at least 3 or 4 more times over the following weeks. Then 4 days ago my wife was at the store and it does it again, but this time no amount of waiting helps, it just rotates but wont start. I have it towed home then call a relative who happens to have a diagnostic scanner to come over. He scans it and it comes up faulty MAF sensor, well me being a cheap wad I go to the local "used" parts store(junkyard) and get a maf sensor, put it on and still no go. Scan it again and it comes up faulty ignition control module, back I go to the used parts store, I pull the coil packs off and put an ICM on it and still no go. So now here I sit at my wits end typing this, hoping someone can help me fix my car without ever laying eyes on it. LOL. Thanks in advance...

Re: 2002 Impala wont start

I don't know if our problems are related (I have the 3.8L engine) but read my thread titled "stalling problem"...

Re: 2002 Impala wont start

Any other ideas as to what my problem is? And how can I test the fuel pump without dropping the tank and taking it out?

Re: 2002 Impala wont start

you dont have to drop the tank, there is an access panel in the trunk of your car, just pull back the carpetting and look right behind the back seats.

Fixed It! It was the fuel pump! Thanks for all the help guys, and a major props to >bigrod< for the heads up on the access panel in the trunk. It made the fuel pump change out a snap

Re: 2002 Impala wont start

glad it was the obvious thing to check, and not some random electrical problem or something hard to figure out.

glad to help.
