Question about getting a system
Hey all,
Alright so right now I still have a beater car. In about a year I want to get a camaro. The thing is, I really really love my music. I was wondering if it would be "okay" to upgrade the speakers in my current car (1999 saturn s-series) and eventually transfer them over to my camaro? If yes, then I was wondering what should I get as a nice upgrade? Nothing to expensive, but just some stuff to give a nice "feel" I do want to "feel the hit" so to speak. So let me know. If the music I listen to counts then I basically play metal and hip-hop. Thanks.

Re: Question about getting a system
the saturn and camaro could possibly have the same size speakers since they are both GM, so there's a little hope. If nobody here knows off the top of their head, then try going to Crutchfield and using the "what fits my car" option. Check what fits your saturn, then check what fits the year camaro you plan on buying. Hopefully they match.
As far as stereo equipment goes, metal and hip hop are on opposite ends of the spectrum. But that's not a big deal. Especially since you aren't buying subs. Anyways, are you just planning on upgrading your speakers and running them off the head unit? Or do you also plan to buy an amp to power them? How much can you spend and how much of a difference would you like to hear?

Re: Question about getting a system
I can spend between $400-$1000.
I want to feel the bass bassically. And not have it sound "distorted" if I make it loud. |

Re: Question about getting a system
no, to both. I'm just saying $1000 is plenty to build a solid system. There will be a lot of suggestions. Get your pay pal account ready haha.

Re: Question about getting a system
The speakers that would fit and be transferable from your saturn to the camaro you plan on buying (depending on what year camaro you plan to buy) would be 5 1/4 in the front doors and 6 1/2 in the rear deck of your saturn which would transfer into a camaro's doors and the rear seat area. If you plan on buying a 95 or newer camaro then go with 6 1/2 in the doors and rear deck of your saturn as they will fit in the doors and rear passenger area of the camaro. If you get a good set of components up front and some 2 or 3 ways for the back and put an amp to them you will feel it a little. If you really want to feel it get a set of components for the front, a set of 2 or 3 ways for the back, a 4 channel amp to push them all, and then a sub or two for the trunk and amp for the sub. For the music you listen to I would recommend going with a pair of 10's or 12's depending on how much bass is in the metal you listen to. I'm sure that pretty soon like tonight once they get back from work ng, cbfry, and paul will chime in with recommendations for what brands to use and the most efficient sq setup for your price range.

Re: Question about getting a system
Alright cool thanks.
Can someone add where I can buy these parts and have them installed? I have no idea if I could do that myself. "If you get a good set of components up front and some 2 or 3 ways for the back and put an amp to them you will feel it a little." The only thing I understand is "amp" I have no idea what "components, and 2 or 3 ways" are for a car. Help me out ![]() I'm mainly looking for this, to the new people. "Thump to feel" but not to loud that I get a ticket. And "clarity" so if I turn it up, it doesn't get distorted. I don't want to spend more than $500 at first, then $500 a little later.

Re: Question about getting a system
Components are like 2 and 3 ways but instead of them being in one speaker there is 2 or 3 speakers. Hopefully that helps.

Re: Question about getting a system
well he doesn't know what 2 or 3 ways are in the first place.
2 way speakers are speakers that have a mid range driver and a tweeter in one speaker. Mid being "one way", highs from the tweeter being the "second way" so to speak. You can imagine what a 3 way speaker is. components are sets of speakers with separate drivers per frequency range so that you get a set of dedicated speakers and you power them separately. It's far less efficient, but much better for performance. I'm sure we can find you one or two pairs of components and an amp to power them for around 500$ I'll let the other guys do that though. I'm not an ebay champ... to say the least.

Re: Question about getting a system
Alright so by powering them each individually, does that mean I need a dedicated amp for them?
And are components just 3 speakers? And you put each speaker somewhere in the front? Or is it a set of 2 3 speakers and each 3 go on each door on the front? I heard to just get 6x9's for the back, instead of components. Mainly because you shouldn't be hearing them much, they're only there for "depth, or stage level"?.

Re: Question about getting a system
Ok...I am confused about your explaination of component but I think you are along the right lines. Each side will have 2 or 3 speakers (depending on the set) and it will come with a crossover for each side. That is what you power with the amp. And the 6x9 thing is true. It will add some to the bass. I think his sn is Alaphanos or something like that and he doesn't have any speakers in the back just subs.
