Question ls/vtec swap 90 crx si questions?

alright i fixed the old problem. it runs good now.

I just got a b18a1 for FREE.

it's just the block, crankshaft and oil pan.

Is there a good place to get a block cleaned in the san diego area, adn what do I do with the crankshaft?

Will my internals from my b16a fit in the b18?

will the tranny bolt right up?

Where could I find a guide?

my friend just bought a 96 teg with a b18b1. he just bought a b16a2 head. we are both trying to do this within the next month.

Yeah, the tranny from any b series will bolt up. The internals wont work, different r/s ratio and larger pistons I believe. And if youve already got an ls/vtecthen you know what to do with the head.

Re: ls/vtec swap 90 crx si questions?

torque monster...but just gotta watch the revs, it doesnt have a near perfect r/s ratio...so its not nearly as efficient as a b16, and cant run up as high safely without building up.

riiiiiight. b16's have the same bore as every other b series motor, only difference in displace is the stroke, like all honda motors. the dome is bigger which would give it higher compression.

That's right. Also, Luke aka quiXilver has b16 pistons in his B18 engine in his CRX... He has an SRT4 though which is why we probably haven't heard from him in awhile...

Re: ls/vtec swap 90 crx si questions?

Yes, all bseries (except b20b/z and b20a) have 81mm bore. All b16a and b18a/b have the same pistons, the difference is the dome. I'm running jdm p30 b16 pistons in my lsvtec which puts it near 12.5:1 compression with a milled head.

As for the crank, I highly suggest you balance it and polish it. Use the LS rods and bearings. Shotpeen the LS rods and use ARP rod bolts (these are a MUST in lsvtecs). The arp rod bolts will allow you to rev past 7k reliably. The problem with the LS blocks is that they have small rod bolts (the same as the dseries) that tend to stretch or break at high RPM's, which is what leads to the common problem of spun bearings on lsvtec setups. The RS ratio isn't all that bad, it is nearly identical to b18c engines which can spin up to 8500-9k no problem. The b18c/b16 motors use the larger rod bolts which allows them to rev higher.

Question Re: ls/vtec swap 90 crx si questions?

So where would I take the crankshaft to get balanced and what rods do I buy? GSR?

Will the water pump and oil pump work?

or should I buy some type r?

what timing Belt do I buy?
