Dumb question or not?

Alright, I like to read up on cars before I buy them, contradictory to what my parents might do, but I have a quick question. What's the gas mileage like on the SS/SC? sticker says something like 19/27 which is better then my current 95 z28, but I don't really want to pay the 21k price tag for a new car if it's only going to get 2 or 3 miles more per gallon.

Any quick answers would be greatly appreciated. I don't think the dealer's gonna let me find out the long way how much gas they guzzle.

Sticker on mine said 23/29. I'm getting slightly better than that but that's because I use mine mostly on weekends and short trips. I have heard some people getting as high as 26 or even better. The car tells you what your current miles per gallon is.

Re: Dumb question or not?

Unbiased opinion, would it be worth it to trade in my car for a SS supercharged cobalt? I know I'll be sacrificing the low end torque which is nice , but I need something a little more fuel economic. They both take premium, but I'd pay the price if I didn't have to fill up almost twice a week. I know it depends also on how you drive the car...Thanks again y'all

Only you can decide on if you should get one or not. I've had all kinds of chevys from Camaros to Impalas. Each had their good points, each had bad. Just go test drive one and decide.

Re: Dumb question or not?

Oh absolutely, I completely agree, but I would like to know that i'm getting a better gas efficient car that's still roughly as quick in the 1/4 as my z28. I'd surely sacrifice the tq for the warranty, the look, the FWD, so a little better gas mileage...I like the cobalt SS/SC which is why it's on my list but to buy a new car to replace a gas hog wouldn't be justified if it ate just as much gas as the car i have...I don't know if that made any sense, but I hope it did.

Re: Dumb question or not?

I have only had my car for a month and a half so I am not the one to ask about alot of this and as of today I have barely 975 miles on mine. You can check out http://www.cobaltss.net. That site has just about anything you wanted to know about the SS/SC. Check it out.

Re: Dumb question or not?

One thing I do want to point out is that the Cobalt SS/SC reccomends Premium gas or else it will have sluggish results. Remember it is Supercharged afterall. You may be putting the savings back into the tank by needing the more expensive fuel. Someone on another forum pointed out that they put in 87 octane and the check engine light came on and the engine sputtered.

Re: Dumb question or not?

Yeah I knew it would simply because of the SC but my z28 has a CR of 10.5:1 so it takes premium as well...and fires on all 8

Re: Dumb question or not?

If you keep your foot out of it you can get over 25 mpg in the city and 35+ on the highway.
