06 silverado/ hp increases?

I have a 06 silverado and thinking about getting a predator programmer for it. I was wondering if anyone attempted this and did it give good or bad results. If I get a pregrammer for the truck would it be better to get an aftermarket intake before the programmer?

it won't really matter, because you can always hook up the programmer after you install the intake to make the modification. Make sure you store your factory settings, because if you have to take it back to the dealer for servicing, it will void the warrenty. You will want to load the defaults before you take it in.

good call on the defaults. So here is another question what do you think the best intake is for it?

Re: 06 silverado/ hp increases?

I have a K&N Gen11 Air Intake.. I personally think it is the best! And it was easy to install.
but whatever you get, make sure you do not get anything with a metal intake tube.. this will heat up and lower your perforamce. the plastic one (like the GEN II) stays cooler so the air comming in is cooler.

Not with the GenII. Plastic retains very little heat as it is.

Re: 06 silverado/ hp increases?

Personally, I think you would be better off making your own intake setup, since you have an 06 and electric fans. There are a few threads on it that you might want to search. You can do this for about $110 and you will get maximum airflow out of it. If you can't find anything in a search, I'll post up the links to what you'll need to make it. Best intake setup I've owned so far, and I've tried them all.

Also, I would recommend a custom tune over the hand held programmer. You'll get alot more usable power, as well as a few other things the tuner won't give you.

Re: 06 silverado/ hp increases?

www.SShotrods.com is the only place I have found for the home-made cold air intake. Here is a listr of things they have for you to choose from to look at . Hope this helps. Would a throttle body spacer be a bad idea on a 2006 4.8 Silverado Crew Cab ?

K&N Filter
Exhaust
Air Intakes
Rear End
Program
MAF
Electric Fans
Air Box Mod
Pulleys
EGR Mod
Air Tube Mod
EGR Plate
Nitrous
Grill Install
Transmission Cooler

Re: 06 silverado/ hp increases?

I do not think the spacer is going to do much for you.. since the Vortec Engine does exactly what the throttle body spacer does.. you may screw up the air velocity by adding one in there. If anything you may get worse performance.
