Replace Rear Struts - 89 prizm

Can anyone tell me how to access the rear strut assemblies. Can they be replaced as a unit, or do i need to get a spring tool? How do you determine if the rear sway links are salvageable? Thanks for the help.

solved. removed the rear seat assembly to access the struts.
