We all hear about warranty repairs and recalls on our silverado's, and I have been kind of curious how many of us have had to bring our trucks in for either a factory recall or for repairs under warranty. Lets limit it to the first 3 yr/36000 for those of us without the extended warranty. I'll start it off.
Have a 04 silvy with 4.3 reg cab long bed that I bought new. 1. About 2 weeks after buying the truck, I climbed under just to have a look around and noticed an oil leak. Very minor. Turns out, the oil pan wasn't on tight enough. Only problem was it took two repair visits for them to fix right. The first time, they just tightened the bolts and said ok. I looked later and apparently the oil had made a groove in the gasked because it still leaked. Second visit took care of it. 2. About 2 months after the oil leak, I was wiping down the dash when the DRL sensor falls into the dash. Guy at the dealer said it was not put in correctly. 3. Finally, for the first 3 or 4 months of owning the truck, when it hit a certain speed at a certain RPM it would rattle like he** from somewhere under the truck, especially going uphill. Guys at the dealership could hear it but not figure it out. Eventually a bulletin was released on it and it turned out that part of the exhaust sysem was rubbing against the chassis on certain models. They actually called me and said hey, we know what it is when can we fix it. Isn't that service. Installed a flex pipe and that was taken care of. I think my truck was a Friday afternoon at 4:30 job, but once the minor stuff was taken care of it has been great for 34,000 miles now and I'm lovin' it!!!!

Re: warranty repair\recall
Bought my 2001 Z71 new in July 2001. The only problem I had is the slip yoke which was replaced under warranty. Only one recall and that was for tailgate cables. It's been a great trouble free truck

Re: warranty repair\recall
2 warranty repairs so far...
1. Had to have the driver side tail lamp socket replaced. The original one kept shorting and blowing up my bulbs. 2. Intermediate steering shaft replaced. I only have about 5,000 miles left on my warranty so I'm trying to find anything and everything that needs to be fixed now. The only thing I can come up with that seems out of the ordinary is that for the first 5 minutes of having my A/C on, the air coming out smells really musty. Anyone else have this problem? And from what I've read my 2004 doesn't have an in-cabin air filter so this is really baffling me.

Re: warranty repair\recall
Here's my list to date:
1. Had the clunking going on, so I had the nickle-plated yoke swapped in under warranty. 2. Two weeks ago while cleaning the wheels I noticed that on all 4 rims, the clearcoat was flaking off (and I baby this thing too), so I got 4 new rims under warranty. 3. Same instance, I had all 4 side mouldings (x-cab) replaced as they showed the famous 'bubble' effect from the bar-code label reacting with the moulding adhesive. 4. Had the intermediate steering shaft replaced due to premature wear and resulting 'slop'. Anyone that's up here in Lake County, IL knows about Rockenbach Chevrolet and their 'reputation', but I have to say...their service guys are top notch! No messing around, got everything ordered and fixed immediately, no questions asked. Great bunch of down to earth guys. |

Re: warranty repair\recall
05 Z-71, 12000Km on the odometer.
Transmission still clunks under 2-3 upshift, taken in 3 times now and still not fix. Cruise control violently jerks as if the truck is running out of gas when going down any kind of incline on the highway. Taken in 3 times and still not fixed, apparently GM says they can't do anyting about this |

If the door switch is anything like I had on my old '96 Ram, that's a $10 or so part. And the switch should just pop out. There's a pin connector on the door side. |

Re: warranty repair\recall
Those of you that have had the steering intermediate shaft replaced will experience the clunk in the steering once again down the road. GM has determined that the new shaft did not cure the problem long term and the looseness comes back. They have developed yet a new grease to inject into the joint that is supposed to do the trick. Heard that before.
Both my Chevy and Pontiac need to go in and have this done again. Every 10-15000 miles.

MT Seems GM is on a merry-go-round with this problem. At first they were lubing the shart. Then they started replacing the shaft with what they said was a re-design. The latest from GM: Subject: Clunking Noise Under Hood and Can Be Felt in the Steering Wheel and/or Steering Column (Lubricate Intermediate Steering Shaft Assemby) #00-02-35-003J - (01/30/2006) Models: 2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade Models 1999-2006 Chevrolet Silverado Models 2000-2006 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe Models 2002-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche 1999-2006 GMC Sierra Models 2000-2006 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL Models 2003-2006 HUMMER H2 Based on recent Engineering validation testing, it has now been determined that either grease ( Molycote Grease (dark color) or NYE Grease (yellowish color )) can be used on all vehicles noted in this bulletin. Either grease will provide a significantly longer interval than replacing the I-shaft itself. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 00-02-35-003I (Section 02 -- Steering). Correction: DO THIS: Lubricate the intermediate shaft using P/N 26098419. DO NOT REPLACE the following intermediate shaft P/N's: P/N 88965505 P/N 89060582 P/N 19149105 Notice: To properly grease the splines, the I-shaft MUST be removed from the vehicle. Failure to do so will result in a repeat repair and a dissatisfied customer. Only information part of TSB shown. The rest is the lube procedure steps. Information provided by Alldata DIY.
