Cool 2004 Dakota Power Steering

Has anyone encountered a problem with the power steering becoming 'stiff' while driving? It comes and goes but only after the truck has been driven for a few miles. It feels like the pump shuts down for a few seconds and then it comes back on. Serpentine belt is OK. Dodge dealer cannot diagnose problem as it doesn't manifest itself when they take it for a road test. Any ideas?

Thanks. -Mike

Re: 2004 Dakota Power Steering

It is probally the steering shaft, from the column to the rack and pinion with frozen up joints.I seen this one happen on a cutomer's 2001 or 2002 Dakota and it is a very common problem. The part is from the dealer only, the whole steering shaft.
