Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well i took my oil pan off today ad found about 50 small aluminum flakes in there. They are pretty big flakes a lot larger then i would expect (about 1/4'' in diameter) I'm going to take all the main and rod caps off. Do you guys think it's a spun bearing?

Re: Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You had flakes that big with no knocking noise or anything? I find that hard to believe there could be that much damage and no noise.

Re: Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well the car didn't run after it happened. I almost have the head off. I'm thinking it's time to rebuild the engine, well at least i'll have a stroker a lot sooner than planned.

Re: Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry ya'll this might be a newbie question, but what exactly is a stroker engine? What benefits does it have, and what exactly is it?

If someone has a link full of stroker info that would be awesome, THANKS!

Re: Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's essentially a longer stroke on each rod in the engine. So there is more distance for it to travel = more room for fuel and air.

Thats a short definition. The 4g64 I guess could be considered a stroked 4g63 or is that an incorrect statement?

Re: Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

basically a stroker makes the piston go down farther in the bock, this creates more volume for combustion. The piston wrist pin is set higher in the piston doesn't rocket through the head.

Re: Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A stroker is exactly what these guys are saying, it's a longer "stroke" for the 4-cycle engine in each of it's cycles (intake, compression, power, exhaust). With a longer stroke the cylinder now has more volume for more air which in turn equals more power. On our turbo cars, a stroker spools a larger turbo quite a bit easier than a regular 2.0, and they can produce more power too. The only disadvantage of it is that you can't rev to way way high numbers. I know Kevin said he revved his stroker to 8500, but you could rev a destroked engine to upwards 10k if you really wanted to. IMO, the advantages greatly outweigh the disadvantages. And there you have it, strokers in a nutshell.

Re: Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, the 4g64 is a little bigger on the bore, and 6mm taller in the deck, but is essentially the same block. In fact the 64 block and 63 crank come out to the 2.1 destroker.
