94 explorer tranny bucking
I love my Explorer and would love to keep it healthy.
150k miles 4x4 XLT edition Automatic Here is my problem. My explorer starts and runs without any problems. I can speed up to around 45 mph and back off on the gas a bit which causes to the truck to down shift in a bit lower gear and I can coast right along without any problems. When I get to around 50 mph and try this, the truck bucks like a bronco. I can excelerate all the way up to 80-90 without any problems. Its just when I back off on the gas a bit while I am at speed and the tranny downshifts a bit where the bucking starts. If I hit the gas again during the "bucking" it excelerates fine and the bucking goes away.. I just find it weird that its fine up until 45 mhp and then when I hit the magic 50 mph mark I feel like I need to hold on for 8 seconds I just had the normal tranny fluid changed but not the fluid in the 4x4 gear case. I know you can't give me a resolution but I am just hoping for a helpfull guess before I bring it to Ford and pay $80 / hour just to have them tell me I need a new transmision Thanks in advance |

Re: 94 explorer tranny bucking
My 94 was doing the same thing. Try replacing the underhood fuse for the electronic shift. Mine did fine after that, happy to say it's a $2.00 fix.

Re: 94 explorer tranny bucking
Thanks for the response.
I got out my manual and looked up the fuse panel both inside the compartment and under the hood. Its been raining non-stop for the last few days so I have not actually gone out to look at the fuses. You mention the fuse for the electronic shift. Would that be the fuse labled ess? Thanks in advance |
