Talking electric fan running

I have a 97 Cherokee Sport that continues to run the electric fan after I turn off the vehicle. I have replaced the thermostat, housing, thermal sensor and battery (fan drained the last one). The fan STILL runs, even when the key is not in the ignition. Something is telling the fan to run. Any ideas?

Re: electric fan running

Some fans run so long as the temp is above a certain point.

Have you waited for it to shut off by it's self??

Re: electric fan running

My '98 does that in the Summer, it usually runs about 10-15min after I turn the engine off. I have assumed that it was a normal operation, since it always turns off on it own. This summer I plan on replacing the mechanical fan with an electric one.

Re: electric fan running

Try changing the relay. I have a 97 and the fan does not keep running.

I also have a 97 and am experiencing the same problem. Just started about 5 days ago. I let it run as long as 1/2 hour and it did not shut off. Runs with key on or off. Only seems to happen if air conditions has been used. If I disconnect fan at the plug, let it cool for a while, turn on key (engine not running) and plug fan back in it appears to "re-set" itself and works normally until air is used again. Relay seems to make sense. Where is relay located and how difficult is it to replace?

Re: electric fan running

That year - the PDC under the hood.

Easy as pulling it out and putting the new one in - expect to pay about $35 for a new one.

Worked perfectly! Easiest repair I've ever done, and the part only cost $10. Thank you! This forum is GREAT!

Re: electric fan running

Glad it worked for you! Where did you get the bracketless relay at?
