dont think.....pics added

im driving and all of a sudden a loud vibrating clunk comes from what sounds like the cv. upon further inspection its coming from the tranny.

now i read a thread the other day about something with the cable falling into the housing. im not sure if thats how it was stated.

anyone know? also i moved the plastic cover on the tranny and i could see the fly wheel had some nice fresh marks on the teeth.

can this be fix without pullin the tranny. mabey through where the starter and flywheel come together.

Re: dont think this is good

UPDATE: the flat piece of metal at the bottom of the tranny thats the shape of a half moon about 8 inches across. i removed it and looked.

anyways i pulled it off and didnt see anything.... i just now went back and cruised it up and down the street to see if i could "gather any more intel" haha and it didnt do it for a few and then CCCRRRRUUNNNNCCCHHHH AND the whole car shuddered and then started rollin again. when it does it, it only does it when its in gear whether im giving gas or not.

i then stopped the car and with the "half moon" plate gone and car off i tried to move the flywheel with a screwdriver and it moved until i got to the compression. without issue.

any ideas now? i know its the tranny. just what part and what action should be taken? should i just go to the junk yard and pull one and say screw finding whats the issue with this tranny or what?

I don't know what the problem is, but that "crunch" sound cannot be good. I say replace it.

DOHC=3.94 and SOHC=3.55 tranny. The 3.94 is better for an all motor/lower power build, whereas the 3.55 is better for a forced induction/high power build.

Yes, all DOHC's have the 3.94 Gearset.
The R/T and ACR's have .81 overdrive and all others have .72 OD.

Or 5th gear for some people. The 2000 neon tranny which is also cable, has the .81 5th gear, but is a 3.55 tranny

OK, so this isn't quite related to you question...but I have to know
The racing stripes on your car...are they pained or vinyls? And where did you get them done? They really look hot.

They came stock on the R/T and are made of ScotchCal vinyl.

Re: dont think this is good

well if anyone gets a grinding from the tranny while in gear and the car shudders violently for a moment and of and on after that. its probly this

what ever holds those small round cylinder shaped things apperently blew up and kept jamming up the gears. and from there by by teeth. look at the teeth in on the different gears and youll see that several are missing

by the way i did get the yard tranny in without issue and its running great
