Unhappy any ideas?

so, stupid depression... as in, no big deal, but you feel like the shittiest piece of shit anyway?

any ideas how to alleviate some weight off your shoulders other than what i've been doing, which usually ends in cottenmouth and hangovers?

Re: any ideas?

Find something that makes you feel good about yourself. Get back into some old hobbies, sports or other activities that you used to enjoy. Or better still take up some new ones. If (just for example) you started doing martial arts, and learned some new skills, even promoted in class, it would be pretty hard to feel crappy about yourself. Plus you'll meet new people which will also help you out of the rut you are in. For me weed only made it harder to get out and do new things, so you may want to try quiting it.

Re: any ideas?

Stop smoking and drinking for a start - that will make things worse.

What has caused this depression? Is there any one particular aspect of life that's getting you down?

Oz is right, and so is everyone, Drinking doesn't help, although the hanger will generally feel better than how you really feel and temporary get your mind of whats getting you down, I found music is the best way to go.

I've gotten into Sevendust, Disturbed, Trivium, and back into Chimaira in the last 9 months, and it does cheer me up.

I'm with ya vin.

I found surrounding your self with your mates is also a good idea.

Re: any ideas?

what calms we is just wakling, not going anywhere particular. if it's a nice day go for a walk, alone. just wander into the park, walking around then sit down somewhere and relax. you dont need to talk to anyone or anything just to almost be alone.

works for me, then again, i have about 40 square miles of forest at the end of my garden.

Re: any ideas?

Pick up a new sport or hobby. For me, I am getting back into biking. I just bought a ~450 dollar bike. It will help me loose some weight, and keep me busy. Try something, pretty much do anything that will make you feel better. Besides drugs, & alcahol. I agree that hanging with your buds helps, too.

Re: any ideas?

i like using my rowing machine. it's good exercise. exercise makes you feel better because as you do it your body releases endorphine, which is similar to morphine and gives you a "more awake" feeling.

Re: any ideas?

If you read any of my threads from '04 and some of '05 you'd know I suffered from deep depression for quite a while.

Honestly, weed is what got me through it. It put me in a good mood, and helped me focus my mind on correcting my mindset. It takes time, and you have to live with dealing with the pain first. You have to work on going out and having fun, even if that's the last thing you want to. It helps ease your mind into a happier state.

Yes your depression will come back, but sometimes it may be a day or two or a week. And then last for days.

I started listening to Joel Osteen. I always thought of him more as a hokie pastor. One day it happened to be on when I turned flipped on the tv. Listened to him for about two months. It helped me immensely.

But you can't just listen to him for advice. You have to listen to what he says and the stories he tells and relate it to your situation. No doubt that he'll tell a story and you'll say "Oh shit, that's almost what I'm going through", or "Damn, that is the way I've been thinking". I know I did on multiple occasions.

It just gives you an eye opener to reflect on your own self, and hopefully help correct whatever's going on. I'm not saying listen to Joel, I'm saying pick up any book or listen to any motivational speaker. You may read or hear something that will help get you back on the positive track. I still get down every once in a while, but usually it's only for a few hours. You eventually figure out how to deal with it.

Best of luck to you!

Re: any ideas?

Get drunk and destroy a big screen TV...did it last night, it helped A LOT.

But I think I kinda know what you're dealing with...I'm having similar issues myself. The only thing that's worked so far is playing guitar or drums, mainly drums due to the fact that I just get to beat the living shit out of something. I dunno...but anyways, good luck and if you figure something out let me know.

Re: any ideas?

I couldn't help but notice the irony of Oz's advice verses his sig.

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Re: any ideas?

thanks for the advise. yeah, i know drinking will definitley make things worse, and smoking up is just a temporary relief. i know whats up, why i'm feeling this way, and really its stupid bullshit. i just need to grow up. I just got back from a nice drive, didn't go anywhere in particular, the weather was nice so i was just driving around with my windows down, listening to some sublime, smokin a cigarette, kinda just in a completely detached state of mind... it helped. i think though, i'm gonna join a gym. summer's comin up real fast, and i need to get back in shape, and i remember working out to be VERY stress relieving.

edit: i know what you mean, texas, i suffered manic depression, crashed and burned about 3-4 years ago. that's done n over with, i'm basically born again from the ashes, and really the thing that helped most was listening to advise from someone, but for me, it came thru song and college inviroment, and really learned to take life more lightly. i still fall back now and then like yesterday when i posted, but now i'm able to get back on top of things more or less.

That's good to hear man.

Sounds like we're in a real similar boat, and that one day we get down is just really bad.
